Watching
Chapter 2
She was lying near the cave.
Cave of the Scales.
She watched the sky.
Her gaze shifted to the entrance of the cave.
She wished to go in.
But she could not..
She could not without great sacrifice.
Alas privilege is not without sacrifice.
She heard a noise.
A yell.
She had to get up.
Unwillingly she got up.
All the people gathered at the center.
At the pile of gray rocks.
The old ones stepped away.
The young ones remained.
The oldest one looked to the sky.

He sits on the roof.
The roof of his home.
He sits on red tiles.
He looks down from the roof.
Only to look at the earth.
The girl born of the same woman as he.
He looks at the girl.
She smells of salt.
The girl brings him down.
Down from his rooftop.
Down from his red tiles.
Into where he sleeps.
She tells him to sleep.
She tells him it is too dark outside.
He does not wish to sleep.
Yet he does anyway.
He dreams of the Earth.
