A Troubadour's Tales

Chapter 20

A TROUBADOUR’S tales…

A column by SARA ROWAN, consisting of delightfully crafted poems she spun from threads of imagination throughout the month of January.

—----------------

Slow it down.
Let me feel you, through it all,
As though the ice has just formed
And like the sun caresses the leaves
Let me feel you
Love you deep.

SLOW

—----------------

Honey is often used as a sweetener
To brighten what isn’t viewed as very pleasant
Make it bearable
Make it suitable for oneself.

I wonder if that is how you saw yourself.
The light
In the dim
Of what you viewed as a dying star
When really
All I wanted
Was someone to come closer and see the brightness
Within.

SWEETENER

—----------------

Isn’t it strange how all fairytales are sweet and light and airy?
But when we grow older, we realise their implications.

Snow White was poisoned for jealousy.
Last week a woman was killed by her husband for talking to another man.
Rapunzel was kept away to avoid contact with the wicked outer world.
Some women are not allowed to even leave their homes.
Maleficent’s wings were cut off by Stephan.
Gisele Pelicot was betrayed by her husband.

PARALLEL

—----------------

Who is the pretty one?
Who is the prettier one?
Older?
Younger?
Fatter?
Slimmer?
Hooded eyes?
Double lids?
Thigh gap?
Teeth gap?
Brunette?
Blonde?

Why do we conform to statistics
Yet call it love
When we look at cold truths
And judge before feel?
