Wikipedia Day
Chapter 11
Wikipedia Day commemorates Wikipedia's birthday. Every year on, or around January 15, Wikipedia supporters have their own parties in their respective communities to discuss Wikipedia and enjoy cake. Typical activities at these meetings include Wikipedia editors discussing their work from the previous year, anybody offering to contribute material on Wikipedia in the current year, Wikipedia training for beginners, and socialising.
In its more than two decades of use, Wikipedia has become an online resource that many people use in their daily lives. Because it is a user generated place where information can be entered, removed and edited by just about anyone, it is not considered to be a reliable source by educators or for formal research. It can be somewhat biased, its legibility can be limited, and it may be missing information or simply have incorrect ‘facts’. But even though it might not be reliable for everything, Wikipedia has created an enormous library with information that is free and accessible to just about anyone all over the world for whatever they need whether that be research or for fun.
So, let's all celebrate this enormous archive of information waiting for us in the backseat with a good resounding: Happy Wikipedia Day!
