What Is Love?
Chapter 16
─┉┈◈♡◈┈┉
I once heard of a person who thought they would never find love.
I once heard of a person who believed love wasn’t real.
I once saw a person crying with a bouquet of flowers.
I once comforted a person from a heartbreak.
I once was a person with a heartbreak.

What is love?
I could ask a thousand different people.
I could ask my sister. And she would describe the way that I never give up on her.
I could ask my maid. And she would describe how I stick up for her when others don’t understand.
I could ask my cat. And, if he could, he would describe how I fought tooth and nail to keep him even though he was a rebellious stray that tore up half of our furniture.
I could ask a scientist. And they would describe the mix of hormones that lead to biological reactions.
I could ask an author. And they would describe vividly the way a person meets their eyes.
I could ask a hundred million different people.
And they would all describe differently.
For love is everlasting and true.
And wholly different.
I never knew how to describe it myself.
Until I met you.
─┉┈◈♡◈┈┉
When the sailing isn’t smooth and when the times are rough, I feel like giving up.
When I hear another sharp word, I feel the urge to walk away.
When I can’t talk to anybody around me, I feel like ripping out every single page of the romance novels on my bookshelf.
And when I don’t,
When I don’t give up and I continue.
When I don’t walk away, I come closer.
When I smooth out the pages instead of ripping them.
That is love.
─┉┈◈♡◈┈┉
What is love?
It is not a what.
It is not a why.
It is not even, perhaps, a how.
It is you.
