My husband is a talented man,
with a great smile and eyes of hazel.
He does his best in all he can,
and often received much appraisal.

He would bring a crowd to tears,
when he was actor many years ago,
other times preying on fears
or impressing a room in his falsetto.

When last he donned a suit,
it was that of someone we know.
It was not some oaf or brute,
but of our dear Romeo!

He has since moved on to other paths,
but his stories always bring many laughs!

I caught a whiff of her scent that day,
As she hurried past me towards the train;
Fresh white gardenias blooming in May,
Like Amortentia, it clouded my brain.

I followed the swish of her summer dress,
Her soft brown curls and her graceful steps.
Where was she going? I couldn’t guess.
She reached a café, walked up its doorsteps.

“Good morning!” she smiled and took my order,
Not with a quill, but with a computer.
Sipping my drink, I observed from a corner,
Captivated by her and the coffee grinder.

Fate challenges, is it impossible
For a Slytherin to love a muggle?

At breakfast morning, sipping coffee warmed
By nature's flame, and sweet by sugar cane,
I nosh upon some pastry finely formed.
My day begins anew. Again, a change.

It's midday, lunch, and I like my tea black,
Some clementines, bananas, passionfruit.
The sun is strong and bright but to my back,
Before me is all light and bright, not mute.

Now evening's here, this brand new suppertime,
With chicken, turkey, tuna, beef, or cheese.
Yes, dessert is chocolate mousse, or key lime.
I taste it all, and joy belongs to me.

Each day my world's brand new because of you.
I love you my dear one, I truly do.

The Lizard Wizard

A little before now there was a wizard,
He braved the fair city of New York,
But in his travels there was a great blizzard,
So he piled food on top of a big fork!

He sat on his wooden throne,
Smacking the floor with a staff,
Eating each and every scone,
Answering all questions with a laugh.

Bigger and bigger he got,
Belly extending outside the chair,
Stop eating—he said naught!
Well at least, until he could get no air.

A little before now there was a wizard,
But now he was turned into a lizard!

Hello there, Mister Ollivander, sir.
Sir, I’ve come for a European wand.
Wand may be ebony, willow, or fir?
Fir, if you think it will form a strong bond.

Bond that’s so strong it can choose only me.
Me, chosen without second thoughts or doubt
Doubt free and precocious, I know I’ll be
Be what a wizard is really about.

About time we got to it, don’t you think?
“Think, hmm, ash with unicorn trimmed in bronze.”
Bronze works; he conjured a rat in a wink.
Wink eye and said, “Wand’s like that Weasley, Ron’s."

Ron’s spell, Turn this stupid fat rat yellow!
Yellow rat turned with my wand flick, Hello!

Many secrets are held inside,
Some, never to be told.
We feel as if we have to hide,
The secrets we each hold.

Some big, some small, some very, very tall,
Some must be given, but most remain unseen.
At first, they could seem very small,
Or maybe they are obscene.

Some of these things weigh on our soul,
And scratch inside until they are exposed.
But locking them in is our goal,
Until our secrets, inside, are closed.

For every finger, there is a word
Of some small tale being left unheard.

I was skeptical, didn’t think you’d show
Down the escalator you came, mid-call
Nervous, we paused to play with some Legos
And, together, we left the shopping mall

Chatting, driving aimlessly around town
When hunger struck, you got PB and J
We found a park and ate by the playground
By dark, we agreed to meet the next day

At the museum, I saw your heart beat
To pass time, we browsed the local bookstore
You received a potato on the street
Ending the weekend watching dragons soar

You guaranteed my return with a kiss
Thank you for existing, I reminisce

A little girl examining a map
"Who lived here Mommy? What made them so great?"
A mother sitting, girl atop her lap
"See here, sweet daughter, I'll elaborate."

A man exploring ruins - ancient, old
A once grand castle, now a fairy tale
Abandoned full of stories left untold
And just one man to wander through the dale

Old woman boldly facing eager crowd
Explaining distant times of long ago
Excited, full of life - she speaks aloud
Young men and women listening below

Not one alike - each different from the last
Yet each united - all explore the past
