Chapter 36
Welcome back to yet another edition of the interesting and inspiring Quotes page! Today, I’m going to be introducing you to 9 of my favourite quotes from Harry Potter – along with a bonus one! Now, let’s not wait any longer. Read onward!
Quote 1: ”Being different isn’t a bad thing. It means you’re brave enough to be yourself.” - Luna Lovegood
From the moment I laid my eyes on this quote, I knew I had to include it. This quote perfectly encapsulates Luna’s unique personality, better than any other. Luna has always been one of a kind. For her, wearing Radish earrings, a Butterbeer bottle cap necklace, or talking about Blibbering Humdingers isn’t just a statement. It’s who she is. This quote beautifully represents individuality and self love. It shows us that instead of trying to fit into other people’s standards, you should rock your own style and flair. Remember that you are also one of a kind. So go out there and be yourself. It’s the key to living your best life!

Quote 2: “Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do.” - Minerva Mcgonagall
Imagine Minerva McGonagall, glasses perched on her nose, giving you a stern eye while standing with her arms crossed. She’d be like: “You think you can box me in? Ha!” This is her magic way of flipping the bird to anyone trying to limit her. She is the ultimate “I’ll do what I want” character, charging through life like a boss in the wizarding world. The next time someone tries to tell you what to do, just channel your inner McGonagall and say, “Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do!” Remember that you are your own person — and your own boss.

Quote 3: “I am what I am an’ I’m not ashamed.” - Rubeus Hagrid
This is all about being you, no matter what others think. Hagrid’s a big, lovely giant with a heart of gold and he’s proud of who he is. It’s all about being authentic and having self acceptance! Hagrid’s character teaches us that it’s okay to be different, and that our quirks are what make us special. Plus, who wouldn’t want to be as confident as he is? Just like Hagrid, we should all wear ourselves with a smile!

Quote 4: “I’m sick of being the person you want me to be.” - Draco Malfoy
Well, this is the moment where Draco finally cracks. It’s a rebellion! He’s had enough of being forced into a box, whether it be by his family or his social circle. It’s his inner struggle between loyalty and individuality. Draco’s story shows us that even those who seem to have it all can feel trapped by others' expectations. Breaking free and being yourself is a powerful and messy business, but completely worth it!

Quote 5: “Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. Love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves its own mark. To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.” - Albus Dumbledore
This is an amazing quote from Dumbledore. His words describe the power love holds, especially the love of a mother. He’s telling Harry that Voldemort may be powerful, but his lack of love will be his ultimate downfall. It’s like a magic shield – something Voldemort can’t understand or copy. Love leaves a permanent mark and gives protection and resilience – even in the darkest of times. Dumbledore’s words remind us that love shapes who we are and gives us strength even beyond death. Like a friend, everyone needs love.

Quote 6: “Fame is a fickle friend, Harry. Celebrity is as celebrity does. Remember that."
- Gilderoy Lockhart
In this quote, Gilderoy Lockhart tells Harry that fame is unreliable and temporary by calling it a "fickle friend.” He says that a true celebrity comes from what you do, not who you are. But, the irony is that Lockhart is obsessed with shallow fame and is blind to the importance of integrity and meaningful deeds. This quote shows both the fleeting nature of fame and the emptiness of seeking celebrity for its own sake.

Quote 7: “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." - Sirius Black
This quote by Sirius explains how a person's true character is shown in how they treat those who are weaker, less powerful, or in a subordinate position. It’s easy to be kind or respectful to those who are equal or above us, but how we treat those who can’t offer us anything in return—be it power, status or influence—truly shows our moral character. Sirius says genuine kindness, fairness and humility is shown to those considered “inferiors,” and not those on the same level.

Quote 8: “The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure. Thoughts are not etched on the inside of skulls, to be perused by an invader. The mind is a complex and many-layered thing." - Severus Snape
This beautifully written quote from Snape shows us how the mind isn’t really an open book. We can easily open books up and read them, but a person’s thoughts are private, intricate, and layered. The mind is complex, and what’s in it can’t be easily revealed or controlled by others. It’s a reminder of the complexity of human consciousness, and how we should respect personal boundaries, especially when it comes to something as intimate as your personal thoughts.

Quote 9: “And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure." - Albus Dumbledore
Dumbledore’s whimsical nature tells us about the importance of adventure in this quote. When he calls adventure a “flighty temptress,” he’s personifying it as something alluring but hard to catch. By telling Harry to “step out into the night,” he’s telling him to leave his comfort zone and go for the thrill and uncertainty of adventure. Readers, I encourage you all to pursue that flighty temptress in your lives; the one we call adventure ;)

Bonus Quote: “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” – Theodor Seuss Geisel
The quote is a beautifully bittersweet reflection of life, conveyed glamorously by Dr. Seuss! We forget to enjoy what’s in front of us because we don’t appreciate it until it’s gone. All those little moments of joy and laughter are especially important during tough times when it’s the connections we have with others that stick with us. It’s a simple reminder to slow down and enjoy the now. In other words, make sure to savour every moment before they’re just memories :)
