Chapter 24

Bonjour, mes amours! Today, I am excited to bring to you Ivy Dewdrop's Book Recommendations! I absolutely adore reading and hopefully from my recommendations, you’ll find a book that speaks to you. These books and series are all ones that I have read and enjoyed, so there may not be much of a variety in genre. With each book, I’ll include either the back of the book teaser or a short summary so you can get a feel for it. Come on, let’s begin!

*✿❀ ❀✿*

First off, I’m going to stand with stand-alone books that I’ve read and would highly recommend.

1. Ugly by Margaret Mcheyzer

Description:
If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to see.
If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to feel.
If I were dead, he'd never raise his hand to me again.
If I were dead, his words wouldn't cut as deep as they do.
If I were dead, I'd be beautiful and I wouldn't be so… ugly.
I'm not dead… but I wish I was.

Trigger Warnings: Physical, mental, s3xual, and emotional abuse, SA, miscarriage, violence, foul language.

This book was an amazing read, but please make sure to go through and address the trigger warnings. Alongside that, dear readers, if you have been abused, experienced SA, or are having su!cidal thoughts, please seek help. Your overall well being and general mental health matters, so make sure to take care of yourselves! <3

2. Welcome to the Fae Cafe by Jennifer Kropf

Description:
There are ten golden rules to follow if you want to survive an encounter with a fae:
1) Don't ask their name.
2) If they ask you what your name is, lie.
3) Avoid looking directly into their eyes.
4) Don't invite them to your book club.
5) Don't instigate a snowball fight.
6) Never let them burn their mouth on coffee.
7) Don't ask them where they're from.
8) Don't tell them where you live.
9) Never mention their queen.
10) Don't try to kill them with an ordinary human gun.
If you fail to do any of these things, enslave them immediately.

On a cozy fall morning, Kate Kole is nestled in a coffee shop in the city of Toronto reading her favorite novel when she accidentally kills a guy who's being rude to the coffee shop's cashier. Unfortunately for Kate, the person she killed was a fae assassin of the North Corner of Ever, visiting the human realm in secret.

From there, four deadly fae assassins come to the human realm to hunt her down for breaking a fairy law and killing one of their own. Leading them is Prince Cressica Alabastian, the most feared and deadly fae assassin of the North and heir to the North Corner of Ever.

After the assassins arrive in the human realm, things go terribly wrong. To Prince Cressica's horror, his assassins unwittingly get roped into running a cozy café on Kate Kole's behalf. To blend in, the fae assassins are forced to learn how to do basic human activities like cleaning up after themselves, driving without road rage, reading popular fantasy books at book club without getting into alpha male fights over what they're reading, and in general, be nice, all to blend into regular human society.

With a temper like no other, and deadly power that's unmatched, Prince Cressica seeks to get revenge on Kate Kole. But as he aims to strike where it will hurt her the most, the Prince finds himself enchanted by his human target in more ways than one. And when the darkness of the Ever Corners comes knocking at the human realm's door, he needs to make a choice that could cost him everything.

This book is INCREDIBLE! I loved reading it, and would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

*✿❀ ❀✿*

I don’t read many stand-alone books that I enjoy, so now let’s move on to different series! I have a strong feeling that all of us on HiH have either read the Harry Potter books, watched the movies, or both, so I won’t include those. However if you haven’t yet, you definitely should!

1. The Hunger Games by Suzanna Collins

I know this book is very popular, but if you've never read it, let me give you a quick summary.

It follows the story of teenager Katniss Everdeen as she participates in the Hunger Games, a “game show” where players will fight to the death. There are 24 participants chosen to compete, their ages ranging from 12-18 years old. There is always one boy and girl chosen from each of the 12 districts. Katniss has to fight to make it home to District 12, back to her family. In doing so, however, she'll have to survive the Hunger Games. This book series has three novels, but there are also four movie adaptations following Katniss’ story. There are other books in the series as well, yet they do not follow her and there are also 4 movie adaptations following Katniss' story. There are other books in the series, but they do not follow Katniss Everdeen.

2. Divergent by Veronica Ruth

The first book in the Divergent series shows us the life of Beatrice Prior, a teenager who lives in a post-apocalyptic Chicago. There, society has been divided into five factions, each with a specialised social function. They are called Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day each year, 16-year-olds must choose a faction to devote themselves to. Beatrice has to go through picking between her family and who she really is. This dystopian novel is filled with action and secrets! It’s an amazing tetralogy and also has 3 movie adaptations.

3. Powerless & Reckless by Lauren Roberts

Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary, pretends to be an Elite and poses as a psychic to not reveal her true identity. However, when Paedyn saves Prince Kai Azer, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials, a deadly competition held to showcase the elites' powers— the one thing Paedyn lacks.

In my opinion, the Powerless Trilogy is incredible! This fantasy world deserves all the hype it gets and more!

Well, that concludes this chapter! If you’re wondering, I was able to find most of these books in my school library, Everand, or Hoopla. You’ll also be able to find them in your local library or bookstore. They’re a couple of my favourite books and series, so I hope you’ll be inspired to try something new and consider picking one up. Thanks for reading, loves, bye!
