The Importance Of Halloween In Harry Potter
Chapter 21
Hello lovely people! Today, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to tell you all about the amazing celebration of Halloween and its magical impacts on the world of Harry Potter! We’ll be discussing six different influences that Halloween has had in our beloved book series. Buckle up, it’s gonna be a blast!
1. It Marks The Day The Golden Trio Became Friends
I know it sounds a bit nondescript, but it’s actually SUPER important! At first, there were the delicious feasts and glorious decorations in the Great Hall. It was a treat for the eyes! Then suddenly, first years are off fighting trolls in the ladies room. I can say for sure that it’s not really a scene you see often! Well, it led to the creation of one of the most iconic trios in history. Thanks to that Halloween, the three developed this unbreakable and legendary friendship, despite the mocking earlier that day. It’s lovely to see how their friendship grew from that night, disregarding the numerous challenges they had to endure.
2. The Death of Lily and James Potter
This is perhaps the most emotional point in this article. The wizarding world was never the same from that day on. On October 31, 1981, Voldemort brutally killed Harry’s parents while Lily Potter sacrificed herself for her son. On this day, Peter Pettigrew betrayed the Potter’s and Sirius Black was framed. Harry then started living a miserable life with the Dursleys, who despised “his sort.” But on the other hand, wizards secretly celebrated wildly for the temporal vanquish of Voldemort. In my opinion, this day should indeed be called “Harry Potter Day.”
3. The Opening of The Chamber of Secrets
Woah… second year was truly a real Halloween at Hogwarts. If a Death Day Party flooded with spooky ghosts wasn’t scary enough, the message written on the wall in blood sure is! The mysterious and bloodthirsty voice, the “petrifying” message on the wall, and the frozen Mrs. Norris, hung by her tail… Yup, that sounds like another Halloween haunted by Voldemort’s presence. That guy certainly had a special love for this particular date, didn’t he?
4. Sirius Black’s Momentous Break In
Oh my, what a turn of events! With the “bad” guy’s breakthrough from the most secure prison in the world, how can Harry Potter’s Halloween ever be peaceful? Just picture it: a mad, bad-tempered and messy stranger who’s supposed to be in prison carrying a sharp knife and slashing the Fat Lady’s portrait– that’s quite the Halloween! Even though it turned out that Sirius wasn’t quite who he seemed to be, a Death Eater in a rat’s form living inside of Hogwarts for years is still quite frightening, innit?
5. Harry Potter Is Chosen As A Triwizard Champion
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Halloween was actually the last time this is mentioned in the books. Yet again, it was an extraordinary holiday with the tremendous excitement over the upcoming Triwizard Tournament. However, Harry was once again stuck as the centre of attention. No surprise there, right? This time he had to face a series of perilous tasks and an impostor who had tricked the Goblet. Now that’s what I call terrifying!
6. The Deathly Hallows
Blimey, I should’ve spotted that earlier! It is such a clever idea to share half the name “Deathly Hallows” with Halloween, for Halloween celebrates the supernatural and unknown. In the wizarding world, the Deathly Hallows are three greatly powerful objects that have come together to “conquer death.” Harry, of course, has been in possession of these objects temporarily. It’s spooky how much Harry connects with these objects and Halloween. Really spooky.
Well, with that, we have unfortunately reached the end. I hope you enjoyed going through these events with me! Thanks to these crazy Halloweens, you’ll never find a dull moment at Hogwarts. Keep an eye out for the next issue, and more fresh news. For now, goodbye!
