World Teachers Day
Chapter 16
World Teachers Day is a celebration all about the remarkable contributions that all teachers make worldwide. Observed annually on October 5th, this day is a way for us to express our gratitude for how teachers influence the minds of students and transform education. Additionally, World Teachers Day also gives us an opportunity to reflect on ways we can support them better. After all, they are our superheroes!
World Teachers day originated in 9166, when UNESCO and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) established the Special Intergovernmental Conference on the Status of Teachers in Paris. This conference adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which defines the rights and responsibilities of teachers globally.
World Teachers Day was first celebrated on October 5, 1994 to commemorate the anniversary of the 1966 conference. Since then, it has been observed annually to acknowledge the significant contributions teachers have made to society.
Everyone should celebrate World Teachers Day! The impact teachers have on our lives is immense, and deserves recognition. Here are some ways you can show appreciation for your superheroes!
- Thank Your Teachers: Simply express your gratitude for the opportunities they have provided and their hard work.
- Create Handmade Gifts: Write a letter, or draw a portrait. There are many things you can do to thank a teacher who impacted your life!
- Advocate In Your Community: Find a way to support your teachers outside of school. Show your support for the importance of education and teachers’ rights.
- Donate To Charity: There are many non-profit organisations that have been created to support teachers. Honour them by making donations to organisations like Education International, The Education Trust, or Association for Childhood Education.
- Share Your Stories: Share your story about an inspiring teacher. Post on social media using the hashtag #WorldTeachersDay!
Teachers dedicate their lives to educating and supporting students like you! It’s vital to provide them with resources and recognition for their contribution to society. Give back to your teachers and show your appreciation for your teachers. Happy World Teachers Day!
