National Princess Day
Chapter 12
╰──╮✩*ೃ.⋆╭──╯
The trumpets play. A band begins. You look out your bedroom window, eyes blinking back to sleep, and then you realise.
It’s Princess Day.
Bouncing off of your bed, you run to your closet to pick out your outfit and then hurry downstairs. Your mother’s sitting at the table with her coffee, a knowing smile on her face, when you grab your shoes and rush out the door right as the music ends and you take your place as the royal herald announces.
“Her Majesty, the Princess!”
The sunlight hits at the perfect moment. The doves sing. Every girl in the kingdom bows her head gracefully, letting the sunlight illuminate a perfect halo of light.
For every girl in the kingdom is a Princess today. A being of utter joy, a woman to be lavished and loved on, a girl who should be laying in luxury. Even those who can’t see the light, those who are too poor for a fancy dress, even those in threadbare rags; today, they are recognised.
And that includes you, dear reader. For it is National Princess Day and you - or any other female figure in your life - is a complete princess. Treat them like one.

Now, dearest reader, you might be wondering: what in the Great Heavens is National Princess Day?
Well, it is simply a wonderful celebration of femininity, celebrated on the 18th of November. A recognition that every girl, every woman, is a princess and should be treated like one.
Wonderful and famous princesses around the world embody this beautiful holiday, like the beloved late Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly, and the late former Princess of Wales, Diana. Other living princesses, including Princess Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, Princess Elisabeth, Princess Tessy, Princess Eugenie, and dozens more elegant and beautiful royals around the world show us the true meaning of being a princess.
Princesses have been the subject of the media for years. Royalty in literature and media is exceedingly popular. One of the best examples of this is the Disney Franchise. There are many Disney Princesses that embody different values, each of them striking in their own way. From Snow White to Rapunzel, Elsa to Mulan, every one of these amazing women teaches us what it truly means to be a princess.
Funnily enough, however, National Princess Day didn’t originate because of any of this. It came around due to the company that produced an old film from the 2000s named The Swan Princess. It’s one of my classic favourites and a movie I would highly recommend - it even is part of a movie series, so there’s plenty of material.
The Swan Princess was adapted from the ballet of Swan Lake, which might be why you find it familiar. It’s a beautiful story and I can guarantee that you will feel drawn to it. The franchise has since founded this holiday to help children celebrate their imagination and embody the kindness and joy that each child beholds when they think of princesses.
So, take a good look at the princess in the mirror. That’s you! Celebrate and uplift others, and exude compassion and grace. Be a true princess and life shall recognise you.
But, know that it’s okay to make mistakes. Every princess does. Every princess might have something that others don’t like, or that they’re ashamed of. But what makes a real princess is their ability to push forward, to pull through. To glide through the past, through the present, and smile at the future.
I hope you enjoyed learning about National Princess Day. Until I see you again, my dear Princess friend…
