Chapter 18
Hello, hello, hello! Today I will be sharing with you a book that I read some time ago which I think was a really interesting and well-written read. It’s called the “Six of Crows” by Leigh Bardugo. It’s actually very popular.
Here is the book description:
“Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone...
A convict with a thirst for revenge.
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.
A runaway with a privileged past.
A spy known as the Wraith.
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.
Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.”
Doesn’t that sound cool? Six of Crows is about a heist, led by the ringleader Kaz Brekker. The book is shrouded in an air of mystery, and the audience is just as mystified as the characters themselves. On the surface, it’s an ordinary heist and the only thing that’s off are the character’s intense loyalties and the shabbiness of the setting. But deeper underneath the skin, there’s a dark secret bubbling…
Now, I cannot spoil it for you, but I must say that I really loved this book. It’s the first part of a duology.
The characters are amazingly developed and there is so much depth to them. They have complicated loyalties, terrible pasts, and convoluted ideas of justice and peace. They don’t know how to live normally, because normal simply isn’t in their vocabulary. It’s utterly brilliant.
Inej, Kaz, and Jesper were my favourite characters. But I can confidently insist that the rest of them are just as fabulous - I simply found those three more to my personal taste. All the characters are charming and amazing.
Furthermore, there are characters that do return from Shadow and Bone and appear later in King of Scars. The Grishaverse (universe of Leigh Bardugo’s books) is huge and is so interesting, it will totally suck you in.
I hope this convinced you to read the lovely Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and enjoy! I’ll see you in Ketterdam : )
