Lie 4 - My final years at Hogwarts
Chapter 9
After my attack, and whilst in my fifth year at Hogwarts, I had begun to take extra care in not running into Molly or Arthur. However, one day, as I was heading back to the common room after finishing my last class for that day I heard yelling and screaming coming from somewhere in the distance. I ran quickly to where the noise was coming from, and stopped dead in my tracks. Standing in front of me was my sister and Bellatrix Black. They had their wands in their hands, aimed at each other. “What the devil’s snare is going on here? Molly, why are you up this end of the school? This is the Slytherin common room corridor.” Molly looks at me immediately and opens her mouth, “I came to see you Dolores. I was sent a letter today from St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and injuries in London; it stated that mother and father had been admitted after being attacked by a werewolf. Professor McGonagall asked me to come and get you so all of us children can go and visit them.” Molly had just answered my question. They were attacked? Before I could reply Bellatrix strikes Molly with a curse I am yet to learn. “Dolores, you have to choose. Will you go with your siblings and visit your, oh-heaven-forbid-beaten-by-a-werewolf parents? Or will you stay at school and say bye-bye to that family of yours one and for all?” What Bellatrix asked really got me thinking. What good had my family actually done for me since I cam to Hogwarts? They hadn’t done anything. My parents were ashamed of me. I was attacked by a centaur because of my sisters relationship and my siblings were always ignoring me. “I choose Hogwarts. Molly I am not even going to apologise. All you Prewett’s have done is cause me nothing but pain since I have arrived at Hogwarts.” After I said this, Molly ran away crying; something it would seem she is fond of doing. This was the last time I looked into the eyes of one of my siblings.
Around a week after this incident, I got a letter from my parents saying:
Dolores,
1. We are disowning you. Your Aunty Rosette will bring all of your belongings to Hogwarts for you.
2. We ask that at the end of the year you change your last name; as you are no longer welcome to use the Prewett name.
3. NEVER contact anyone from our family again; this includes all of your grandparents.
4. Your siblings have asked that you do not come anywhere near them at school.
5. Molly would like you to stay clear of Arthur Weasley.
From,
Kenwood and Katalina Prewett (Gryffindor family and parents of THREE beautiful children).
After reading the letter my first thought was where am I going to live? But, then I remembered last holidays, I was by myself in London and a strange purple bus appeared out of nowhere. The ticket man explained it was called the Night Bus. This bus collected stranded witches or wizards and provides them with transportation and a bed. I got on the bus and whilst there met Abbadon Bognetti; a fellow Slytherin who was three years ahead of me in his schooling. He explained that he had been kicked out of home the year before and has since purchased a house of his own. He informed me that if I ever needed somewhere to live, that I could move in with him.
After remembering this, I instantly write a letter to him. I do this as I know I cannot live with the Malfoy’s since Narcissa has taken residence there, after her parents’ death. The letter I wrote to Abbadon read:
Dear Abbadon,
I would like to take you up on that offer from that night on the Night Bus. Is there any chance you can pick me up from King’s Cross Station in London at the start of these holidays? I will have all of my belongings with me. Also I am no longer known by the name of Dolores Prewett; I have changed my name. It is now: Dolroes Jane Umbridge.
Sincerely,
Dolores.
I send the letter with one of the school’s owls. Less than two days later I got a response:
Dear Dolores,
It was great to hear from you. I will most definitely pick you up from King’s Cross. I will bring my car so we can put all of your belongings in.
Looking forward to seeing you,
Abbadon.
Later that term whilst I was studying for my OWL’s; Ordinary Wizarding Level exams, I met Cornelius Fudge, a seventh year Slytherin; who had hopes of working in the Ministry of Magic when he graduated. Cornelius and I became close friends and he helped me study for my OWL’s.
At the end of the year, as planned, Abbadon met me at King’s Cross Station. We loaded up all of my belongings into the back of his car. We renovated his home, cleaning up all of the mould that had been there for years and fixing all of the cracks and leaks. Lucisa lived there with us and we got her a companion, another cat which we named Abba; a nickname that I had for Abbadon.
My sixth year came and went before I knew; meaning I was now about to begin my final year at Hogwarts. All of my siblings had left school and I never had to see or communicate with them again. I spent a lot of time wandering the school’s grounds soaking up as much as possible before I had to leave. I started to talk to most of my childhood friends that were in Gryffindor again. They did not care anymore that I was in Slytherin; we were grown up and that was all that mattered. I got the highest marks out of everyone in my year level in my NEWT’s; Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test.
Before I knew it my time at Hogwarts had come to an end; and I had to say goodbye to the place that had been my home for the previous seven years of my life.
