Truth 3 - A not so magical Christmas
Chapter 6
The rest of the term speeds past me and before I know it, the Christmas holidays are just before me. The whole school is beautifully decorated with tinsel and baubles, with small Christmas trees placed in the corners of every corridor and hallway; and twelve large, heavily decorated Christmas trees in the Great Hall, representing each of the twelve months of the year.
Classes have ceased for the term and we have one week left at school to finish all homework and hand it in. Some people are going home for the holiday break, whilst some are content to stay at Hogwarts. If I had my way, I would be staying at Hogwarts, but my parents sent me a letter several days ago which read:
Dolores,
You have disappointed our family and as much as we wold like you to stay at Hogwarts for the holidays; we have you grandparents and some close friends coming over and they expect to see you. With this being said we request your presence at Christmas this year. Once the day is over and our guests have left, your Aunty Rosette will take you back to Hogsmeade, where Professor McGonagall will meet you and take you back to the castle. When on the train back please sit in a different carriage than that of your siblings.
From,
Kenwood and Katalina Prewett (Gryffindor Family).
On the eve of my departure back to London, there is a huge feast in the Great Hall. The plates are have been charmed and will give you any food that you could dream of. My plate is full of ham, roast pork with a side of potatoes and pumpkin. Our goblets will fill up as well with whatever our heart desires; mine is filled with endless butterbeer.
After the feast I head back to the Slytherin common room and pack my bags to go home. After this, I change into my pyjamas and go to bed, considering that I have to get up early, to go to Hogsmeade train station and on the Hogwarts Express to go home to London.
That night I dream of my parents and family shoving me in a dungeon under the house with one piece of bread to eat and a single glass of water to satisfy any thirst. Once all the guests had left, my family come straight down to the dungeon and begin using the Cruiciatus curse on me.
“Dolores! Dolores! Wake up Dolores!” I am awoken to Lucius chanting my name and shaking my shoulders. “Oh good, I managed to wake you. Hurry up and get dressed; we have to be at Hogsmeade station in two and a half hours, and you still need to have breakfast AND let Professor Slughorn know that we are leaving for Hogsmeade. Now lets GO!” Geez, Lucius can be very pushy.
After we eat breakfast I head back to the common room, collect my trunks, and go to the Great Hall o meet with Lucius and walk to Hogsmeade Station together.
The train ride back to London was long and very un-pleasant. I did just what my parents instructed and stayed far away form my siblings; making sure to sit in a separate carriage at the other end of the train. I sat in an empty carriage with Lucius, listening to him explain and recount what Christmas is like for his family every year. “We have all of our friends and their families come over and our house elves make the biggest of feasts; even bigger than the ones at Hogwarts. Each person’s favourite dish is served and everyone gets a say in the games and activities played and partaken in. You should come Dolores; you would have a lot more fun with me and my family than at your house.” I must admit, I do like the idea of going to the Malfoy’s for Christmas instead of being at home. “I can’t; as much as I might not want to go home, my parents have requested my presence and I cannot disobey them.”
Once back home in London my grandparents welcome me wit h open arms; however, all I got from my parents was a nod of the head. Christmas day flies past before my eyes, as I spend much of the time sitting in my room with my cat; or should I now say Molly’s cat? I have attempted to spend as much time as possible with her before she is given to Molly (who absolutely hates cats). I must have fallen asleep, because I wake up[ with a loud banging on my bedroom door, “Wake up! Get up! You are laving with your Aunty in half-an-hour. NOW Dolores, get your things packed.” My mothers voice; how incredibly nice she is! I can hear her footsteps walking away, when she adds “Also Dolores, leave through the backdoor; so none of us have to view the face that has disgraced us again.”
Once my Aunty Rosette and I arrive at Hogsmeade, Professor McGonagall is there to meet me and we walk back to Hogwarts together silently. Back at Hogwarts castle, I go straight to the Slytherin common room and attempt to get a head-start on studying for the next and final term of first-year.
