Truth 5 - Top at the Ministry of Magic

Chapter 10
After I left Hogwarts I received a letter from Cornelius asking me if I would wish to be his assistant at the Ministry of Magic. The letter was written formally and was kind:

Dear Dolores,

Congratulations on your graduation from Hogwarts. I am writing this as a request for you to come and work at the Ministry of Magic; as my assistant. I can assure you that there will be no run in’s with your siblings; unless you wish. If you do wish to take this position, write back to me by Thursday. You could then start on Monday at nine am sharp.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Cornelius Fudge
(Order of Merlin, Junior Minister of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.)

I was thrilled to have been given this amazing opportunity. I spoke to Abbadon, who I was now married to, regarding whether or not I should take the position. Abbadon encouraged me to take this position as this job was higher up in the Ministry than any of my siblings or Arthur for that fact.

Dearest Cornelius,

I will gladly accept the job offer of becoming your assistant. I wish to only have run-ins with my siblings if it is important or of upmost urgency. I look forward to starting work on Monday.

Sincerely,

Dolores Jane Umbridge.

I started work on that following Monday. When Cornelius was promoted to Minister of Magic, I was promoted as well to Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic. I had heard news that Arthur was to be promoted from Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement; which would mean more money for him, my sister and their seven children.

I could not allow this, so I wrote a letter to the Head of the Department of Magical law Enforcement requesting that she refuse Arthur’s application to work there:

Dear Ms Amelia Bones (Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement),

I have heard of the news that Arthur Weasley, employee of the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office, has requested to join you at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. I must request that you decline his application.

If you do not, it could lead to serious implications upon your position here at the Ministry of Magic. Please think wisely about your decision Ms Bones.

Sincerely,

Dolores Jane Umbridge
(Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge).

I later heard form Cornelius that Arthur’s application had been declined. I felt a slight tinge of guilt for a short period of time; knowing that I had just possibly ruined his and Molly’s lives, but then I remembered what they did to me at Hogwarts.

A few years past and I discovered that Abbadon had been cheating on me with a Muggle. I kicked him out and soon became one of the most respected members at the Ministry of Magic. Abbadon lost his job there and moved away from London; last I heard he was living in Wales. I was appointed a position in the Wizengamot, which is the High Court of Law and Parliament in Britain’s Wizarding world.
I made it my mission to stop Muggle-born’s becoming high in rank in the ministry; I have despised all Muggles since Abbadon cheated on me.

I now finally feel like I have found my place in the Wizarding world.
