H.E.A's Articles

I've been in the Hogwarts Monthly News group since... Well, late February of 2024. As well as now being the head, I'm also a marketer, proofreader, journalist and editor. I thought it'd be nice if I gathered all the articles I'd written and stored them in this book, as well as who edited and/or proofread them. So, come on! Flip the page...

HOROSCOPES

Hello, dearest readers! Welcome to another chapter of this issue. This is Horoscopes, a wonderful place in which I tell you all about your future for the coming month based on your zodiac sign. Since we had to combine June and July into one issue, I’ll be telling you all about what lies ahead of you in August. Get in the rocket, buckle up, and let’s explore the stars!

Aries (Ram) -
August brings Aries opportunities and luck. Aries will also be making crucial decisions for their family. People from the past might appear once more in their life.

Taurus (Bull) -
In social settings, the bull will become more open to communication. Taurus will be making sure that all tasks and reports are in order. They shall also start new projects with much success.

Gemini (Twins) -
Gemini will face sources of income that they hadn’t expected, and will make their financial status better. They will take quite an active role in their life by organising meetings and setting up dates. Also, women who are born under Gemini will successfully improve their attractiveness by using beauty regimens and doing some self care.

Cancer (Crab) -
August is the perfect month to do some swimming and tanning, as it will make an astounding and awesome impact on their skin and hair. Also, fruit and vegetable salads will give Cancer quite some nutrition and vitamins, which improves their health. They should focus on themselves more this month, and also go through personal growth.

Leo (Lion) -
Leo tends to work a lot this month, so they should take a vacation. They might be a little bit blunt this month, so they should be careful with their words to maintain harmonious relationships. Leo should take this month as an opportunity for self-care.

Virgo (Maiden) -
In August, Virgo will earn a lot of profit and money. Expanding their social connections will bring many benefits, such as potential love interests. Virgo has the potential of creating long-lasting bonds in August.

Libra (Scales) -
Libra will be a bit more energetic, productive and determined, which might surprise those who are mostly used to their tranquil and calm nature. This star sign must prepare for potential conflicts that arise due to their change in behaviour. If Libra exercises more this month, it would contribute positively to their health and beauty.

Scorpio (Scorpion) -
There might be many travel experiences this month for Scorpio. This sign shall thrive in gaining new knowledge. Self-care exercises, like finding peace in nature, would greatly help Scorpio this month.

Sagittarius (Archer) -
The Archer will be energetic this month, leading to diligence when working on independent projects. Sagittarius will experience an increase in popularity from their progressive changes. Friends circle around this sign, beaming their support like sunlight.

Capricorn (Sea-Goat) -
Capricorn will focus on creating strong bonds in their professional and personal lives. This sign should be more friendly than assertive for the best outcomes. They will experience high levels of mutual trust.

Aquarius (Water-Bearer) -
Aquarius shall find themselves walking along a trail of personal development and intellectual growth. By creating an environment full of peace and comfort, Aquarius’ loved ones are deeply touched and feel cared for. This sign might go on educational trips or dig deep into scientific research.

Pisces (Fish) -
In August they will be more active and creative than usual. Pisces should be careful when it comes to financial matters and spending money. In Piscean families, the children and parents will experience improved empathy and communication, strengthening bonds.

Oof, and that’s all the horoscopes for this issue! Was it fun reading about your future? Well, it was for me! Make sure to check out the next issue of our newsletter. For now, goodbye!

FRIENDSHIP DAY

You’re on the doorstep of your house, head bowed, tears slowly trickling down your cheeks. You weren’t accepted into the leadership team for school. You try to ignore the truth, but it chokes you worse than a hangman’s rope. That’s when your phone chimes from your pocket, and you take it out, still sniffling.

“I know you’re feeling sad over there, Hazel,” your friend texts. “Don’t be. Not everyone can get into the leadership team. You’re still an amazing friend!”

You smile and wipe your tears away. Your friends are always there to cheer you up. They always will be.

Okay, I'm leaving the anecdote now. Hello readers! I’m here to guide you through Friendship Day, which is undoubtedly one of the most important celebrations ever.

Friendship Day falls on the 30th of July every year. It is a day on which we celebrate our strong bonds and friendships with one another. It is also an international holiday, so it is celebrated all over the globe.

Here are some of my ideas of things you can do on this day:
1. Make friendship bracelets!
2. Make a friend journal, in which you store all your friends’ names and why you’re so grateful for every one of them.
3. Hang out with your friends on this day - perhaps you could eat some ice cream together, or go to the park after school!
4. Have fun with some board games - it doesn’t matter who wins!
5. Make a TikTok together. Go on, have a good laugh whilst dancing!

Just remember, readers: friends are important! They make you laugh, smile, and be happy. They’re always there for you, in the saddest and happiest moments. A friend isn’t someone who you’ve known for a long time. It’s someone who’s stepped into your life and said “I’m here for you, whether you like it or not.”

Thank you for reading! Have a nice day!

MABO DAY

You’ve probably heard of many celebrations in your life. Easter, Christmas, Halloween and your birthday are just some of the many delightful times of the year.

Although…

Have you ever heard of Mabo Day?

Mabo Day is celebrated on the 3rd of June annually in Australia, although people all over the world can celebrate it. It commemorates the life of Eddie Koiko Mabo, a Torres Strait Islander. But… what did he do?

The Mabo Case was basically a landmark decision in the progression of Aboriginal Native Title rights. In May of 1982, Edddie and 4 other men of Murray Island took action in the High Court to legally confirm their traditional Native Title rights.

In February of 1986, Meriam challenged the legislation and the High Court and began to hear Mabo no. 2, which was the case of the Meriam’s land.

On the 3rd of June in 1992, most of the judges of the High Court agreed that the Meriam held the traditional ownership of the Mer (Murray Island.) Thus, the ownership of Mer was transferred.

So now you know the history of this day - but why is all of that so important? Well, the Mabo decision introduced the native title into the Australian legal system; this meant that all Indigenous Australians were and are recognised as owners of the land.

We should all appreciate Eddie Koiko Mabo and the rest of the Meriam for starting the native title and placing it in the legal system of Australia. Not only that, but Australia is no longer known as “Terra Nuilius,” which means “no man’s land.” As you know now, this name is straight-up false.

Sadly, Eddie Mabo passed away 5 months before the 3rd of June, 1992, from cancer and was never able to hear about what he and the rest of Meriam had achieved successfully.

Let’s all raise our glasses to Eddie Koiko Mabo - one of the many heroes of the Indigenous Australian community, who fought for his family’s land. Cheers!
