H.E.A's Articles

I've been in the Hogwarts Monthly News group since... Well, late February of 2024. As well as now being the head, I'm also a marketer, proofreader, journalist and editor. I thought it'd be nice if I gathered all the articles I'd written and stored them in this book, as well as who edited and/or proofread them. So, come on! Flip the page...

SHOCKING NEWS

Welcome to Shocking News! I know this is your favourite chapter to check up on every month. Shocking News is always here to inform you of the latest, most SHOCKING news, whether it be heartwarming or heartBREAKING. Are you ready for this month’s news? I know I am! Let’s dive right into it!

Firstly, some sad news to leave the happier ones for the end. Professor Penrose, the DADA teacher, is leaving HiH. DADA is now fully run by Professor Kwan. Make sure you say your goodbyes to Professor Penrose and wish Professor Kwan good luck!

Sadly, I have more news about people leaving. Dyana, who contributed greatly to the magazine, has sadly announced that she’s quitting this news group. We are all extremely sad, but we hope that she’ll enjoy whatever she plans to do next! Best wishes for you, girl!

Vikram Weasley also left our news group as he is too busy. All the good luck to him for whatever else he plans to do at HiH!

This makes my heart heavy as I write this. Sienna Lockwood, the amazing and caring founder of Hogwarts Monthly News, has sadly retired from being the owner. She states that she’s extremely busy in real life, and cannot continue with her job as main owner or a contributor. Make sure you wish her the very best on her wall! I, Hazel Emory Antler, have agreed to take over starting on the 21st of May. (And I have already taken over.) I REALLY will try to do my best, team and readers! It all starts from this issue, I promise. The good thing is that Sienna will still be able to check in from time to time, to see how we’re running the magazine. But we’ll miss her, and I'm sure you will too!

Here’s something on a bit of a happier note though- there are new professor applications open for Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Muggle Studies and Mythology. If you feel that you’ve got a calling to teach and a passion for any of these positions, just fill out the form in the ‘Volunteer’ tab! Not only that, but there’s also PA applications available for Ancient Studies, Charms, Divination, Flying and Herbology.

Not to mention, there is a demographic survey in the newsroom simply waiting for you. Want to have yourself heard? Got any thoughts for HiH? Just fill out the form!

Let’s end with some fake news- don’t worry, it’s only fake : )

Students say that they’ve seen the giant squid blowing kisses from the lake. Teachers have been watching this too, attempting to not laugh. Giant squid, isn’t it kind of too late for this? Valentine’s Day was three months ago, have you been living under a rock or in a lake?

That’s all I have for this month’s Shocking News! I hope you’ll keep on reading our magazine, a new issue comes out every month. Once again, I promise I’ll do my best as owner… Pinkie promise! Thanks for reading! Check out next month’s issue for some more news!

HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN BY J.K ROWLING: BOOK REVIEW

DISCLAIMER: Spoilers below!

“Harry’s eyes rolled up into his head. He couldn’t see. He was drowning in cold. There was a rushing in his ears as though of water. He was being dragged downwards, the roaring growing louder…”

“Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban” is a fantasy-themed book and the third edition of the “Harry Potter” series. It is set in Harry Potter’s third year at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry, a year that turns dark with Sirius Black, a mass murderer, on the loose...

Harry Potter is back at Hogwarts, after accidentally blowing up his aunt in a rage and having to board the Knight Bus to the Leaky Cauldron. Shockingly, Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban, a feat that no one has ever pulled off before. With dementors patrolling the Hogwarts grounds, a murderer potentially out to get Harry, and strange predictions of Harry’s death by the divination teacher, Harry’s third year at Hogwarts takes an unexpected turn.

Harry Potter is the protagonist of this book and he is a determined, brave, humble, helpful, and loyal boy. This is shown whenever he does things like helping to keep the peace between his friends, or the fact that he never brags about being famous with a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead.

After a dementor attempts to suck up all the happiness from Harry on the Hogwarts Express, he faints, having just heard his mother’s voice.

“And then, from far away, he heard screaming, terrible, terrified, pleading screams. He wanted to help whoever it was, he tried to move his arms, but couldn’t… a thick white fog was swirling around him, inside him-”

This is what produces Harry’s fear of dementors. Thankfully, Professor Lupin, the new Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher, teaches him how to counter a dementor attack with a Patronus. Professor Lupin is a skilled teacher who really knows how to engage the class, and he quickly becomes Harry’s favourite teacher.

The genre of this book is fantasy, although there are many themes covered such as friendship, bravery and courage, hard-work, self-control, persistence, and perseverance. An example of hard work was when Harry Potter continuously practised the Patronus charm, trying to master it so that he would be able to repel dementors and their ghastly hooded faces.

I loved reading this book as it is engaging, exciting, and attention-grabbing. It makes the reader want to keep on reading and I felt slightly disappointed when the book came to an end. The ending’s twist warmed my heart, and I also love Hagrid’s first Care Of Magical Creatures class, except for the ugly incident in which Draco Malfoy, Harry’s arch nemesis, received a wounded arm. Although, if I’m being perfectly honest, he deserved it!

To conclude, reading Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban was certainly not a waste of my time because of its engaging storyline and I strongly recommend this book to you. Reading the rest of the Harry Potter series, as well as other fantasy books, is also an amazing idea.

TOP 10 MEMES OF THE MONTH

“Oooooh, what’s this, huh?”

Yep, I bet that at this very moment, you are thinking these very words, or something along those lines. Well, “Top Ten Memes Of The Month” is a brand new addition to all the chapters we have in our Hogwarts Monthly News issues. This means the funniest, most HILARIOUS memes ever will always be top notch! Under each meme is a general description, and why it’s sooo funny. Ready to shatter some eggs and CRACK UP, everybody? Read on!

10.

Okay, okay, can’t we all relate to this? Surely at one point in time we decided that it’d simply be a GREAT idea to take a trip to the bathroom and start brewing potions. Like, so many of us did hoping it would turn us into something or someone (mermaids, vampires etc). What Hermione does in book two perfectly makes us remember when we were young and mischievous, mixing shampoo with water. Isn’t this funny? LOL!

9.

“Student safety is my top priority,” says the guy who hired a guy with Voldemort sticking out of his head, hired a mad man disguised as Mad Eye Moody, let Fudge-well, you get the point. It’s pretty hard to think of Dumbledore as a school “protector” after everything he’s done, right? Just kidding, Dumbledore, you’re still awesome! But doesn’t this meme perfectly contrast what Dumbledore says and what he does? XD! Like in the Goblet of Fire when he's meant to say "Did you put your name in the goblet of fire Harry?" calmly.

8.

Umbridge is clearly the worst character in Harry Potter, from her deceit and lies to her burning hatred of children. This meme clearly defines what we see her as: a gruesome old bird. I wonder if J.K Rowling made her name on purpose? I certainly hope so! Certainly suits you, Umbridge!

7.

Dumbledore has stood everywhere in the school. Well, that’s true, isn’t it? You can’t deny that Snape’s got a point! This meme clearly depicts how Snape and Harry always argue against each other, and Snape decided to let a speck of humour in! Congrats, Severus! A clever move!

6.

The worst way to offend Voldemort and joke around with death isn’t to attempt to murder him, lie to him, or betray him. It's to mention the legendary...NOSE! Just IMAGINE saying this to him…Snape must be REALLY brave, eh?

5.

“You must not tell lies,” is Umbridge’s iconic line from book five. Now imagine her correcting Voldemort, or rather, Tom, when he says that he’s the most hated character in Harry Potter. She’d say it with that ridiculous little “hem hem” and girly voice, am I right? This meme has me rolling on the floor! Then again, Umbridge is spitting facts this time.

4.

Imagine telling someone in your dormitory to stay away from you when you sleep in the same room, sit on the same table, and are in the same house. WELL, GUESS WHAT? That is exactly what this hilarious meme shows! It’s by far one of the most ironic memes I’ve ever laid my eyes on…could this meme turn into your all-time favourite?

3.

Normally, when you think of geniuses, a bushy-haired girl would probably pop right into your mind, right? Well, say bye to her and say hi to this guy! Ron is pure genius, using his wits to get him out of sticky situations like these. His mother would be proud!

2.

Don’t we all remember that funny incident in the second book when the Weaslys decided to board a car and save Harry? Ron’s mother was so mad, sending a howler to Hogwarts for Ron! This person in Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House” better not be Ron…his mother is going to rage! Another howler? Oh, and great job on another great song, Ed! LOL!

1.

We all reminisce about Oliver Wood’s slightly-what’s the word? Ah yes, slightly unhealthy obsession with Quidditch. So when he mentions it in a time of war and strife, what do you think would happen? This meme is number one for a reason, if only there was a part 2…go to Puddlemere United and congratulate him for…well, I dunno, making me crack up during a time of grief! Oh, and cheers, Voldy didn’t get to finish his laugh.

That’s all the memes we have for now; I’m afraid it has come to an end. But don’t worry, we have some more memes for you next month so tune in next time! And I promise that it’s going to make the neighbours complain from all the laughter from your house. I am your writer signing out, I hope you enjoyed reading!

THANKS TO THE TEAM AND SUPPORTERS

I thought that this month would be normal for the Hogwarts Monthly News magazine. Just completing our chapters, editing, proofreading and creating graphics.

But was I right?

No, I was wrong.

This month, Sienna Lockwood, the amazing founder of our news group. left the group early, on the 20th. She left Hogwarts Monthly News to me, which meant that I had to publish this issue.

And here I am, doing exactly that.

First, I’d like to thank all the members of the team for working so hard and diligently even after Sienna Lockwood left. As per usual, the team warmly welcomed all new members, but I don’t think they’d mind if I gave one more welcome.

Autumn Aschinger, 1st year Ravenclaw, editor and marketer, joined this month! And oh my, did she do a good job! Her editing truly did make journalists’ writing stand out. Not only that, but her graphics were awesome!

Xyryx Mooncrest, 1st year Ravenclaw and a journalist, joined fairly late this month, but wrote beautifully in the Advertising Chapter. I’m sure she’s got you convinced that you definitely should join our magazine!

Hmm, it seems like we don’t have a lot of new members this month. Well, that’s okay, considering the fact that I’ve been pretty busy!

But, you may have been wondering something. I, Hazel Emory Antler, used to be the publishing secretary, right? Well, who’s the publishing secretary now? Well, it’s none other than Sara Rowan! Make sure to congratulate her on her wall! She’s done such a great job this month, and surely will keep it up in the future.

Not only that, but Ivy Dewdrop is now the assistant secretary! Sadly, she hasn’t really been active much because of some device issues, but I know she’ll do great in the upcoming future! If you’re wondering what an assistant secretary is, they help out and cooperate with the publishing secretary.

Now, readers, I’d like to thank YOU for reading this, and all of our other issues. Your support is what’s been driving us all of these months, starting from our very first issue in January. And I know you’ll keep on reading Hogwarts Monthly News even though Sienna Lockwood has left. Once again, thank you so much - we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts!

I’d like to end on a quick note - I promise that I will strive hard to do my very best in every issue, whether I’m writing, editing, marketing, proofreading, publishing or compiling. I shall not give up on our news group, telling myself it’s too hard; as a team, we can do this.

Well, thank you for reading this issue of Hogwarts Monthly News. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled, as our June issue is simply lurking around the corner, waiting to devour your attention…

THANKS!
