Lesson 6) Applying Your Will
Chapter 6
- Willpower is the mental power used to perform magic.
- It is similar to physical strength but represents mental control and the ability to make thoughts and ideas known.
- Some spells require willpower, while others do not.
- The amount of willpower exerted affects the success and intensity of a spell.
- Willpower is focused on the target and desired effect of the spell.
- It is important to be cautious with the amount of willpower used, as a spell failure can result in a strong backfire.
- Willpower is separate from concentration, which is the ability to pinpoint and direct the spell's effect.
- Willpower provides the power for the spell to function, while concentration determines the direction and behavior of the spell.
- Levitation Charm:
- Minimal power initially, more for heavier objects
- Visualize magic flowing and making object light
- Minimal backfire, avoid losing concentration
- Sticking Charm:
- Used to stick surfaces together
- Requires high willpower
- Incantation: Astrictus, wand movement: infinity symbol (∞)
- Willpower determines stickiness and difficulty to separate
- Possible spell failure or backfire
- Concentration:
- Focus mind on target and desired effect
- Varies in intensity
- Shapes willpower and guides magic flow
- Distractions can disrupt concentration
- Meditation improves focus
- Solely focus on spell at casting
- Visualization and additional thoughts/emotions may be needed for certain spells
