Chapter 3
(Layla rushes down the stairs with her mouth wide open)
Layla: It’s my birthday today! Yes, I’m going to get the most presents!
(Her mum shoots a look at her with furrowed brows)
Mum: Don’t expect too much, we’re only going to have 5 guests.
(Layla’s eyes melts with sadness as well as anger)
Layla: Only 5 guests! I thought we were going to invite 20?
(Her mum sighs)
Mum: No, Layla. That is too much already, and don’t worry, you’re going to have so much fun.
(Layla places her hands on her hips)
Layla: Fine, but who’s coming?
Mum: It’s a surprise, and you know that I’m not supposed to tell you if there are surprises.
(the doorbell rings, and Layla starts jumping up and down)
Layla: I’ll get it!
(she went to open the door slowly)
Layla: Yay, it’s my best…
Grandma, uncle, grandpa, auntie! What are you doing here? Where is the 5th guest?
(Her uncle made a shocked expression. Layla made a very confused face)
Uncle: We’ve come for your birthday, of course.
(grandma tries to straighten her back, and smiles)
Grandma: Oh, silly me. There’s only four of us; I think I told your mother the wrong thing.
Mother: Come in, we don’t want you out there standing in the cold. Please make yourself at home.
(they all nod, and stepp inside)
Layla: I can’t believe it! I thought this was going to be the best birthday party!
(her mum takes Layla by the arm and brings her to the corner)
Mum: Layla, be grateful; it’s been such a long time since your grandparents, aunt and uncle have been here. They could’ve been doing something else but instead they chose to come and celebrate your birthday. Now, go give them a hug and behave.
(Layla shoulders drop and she stumbles her way to the living room where they all are)
Layla: Thanks for coming all of you. This is so fun.
(She rolls her eyes. Her auntie stands up happily)
Auntie: Should I go cook some of your favourite spinach soup, Layla?
Layla: Spinach soup is the worst! Actually, Spinach soup is actually quite nice, I guess.
(Her grandpa takes Layla’s hand)
Grandpa: Come with me, I’ll show you your presents. Mine is the best by the way.
(Layla let go of his hand, and follows him to the entrance where all the presents were)
Layla: Wow, I’ve got 10 presents! Yes, this is the best!
(She hugs her grandpa so tight that he nearly starts choking)
Grandpa: Ok, ok. Why don’t we go to the living room so we can open them up with everyone.
(They both trot their way to the living room and lay the presents down on the table)
Grandma: Woo hoo! You’re going to love mine!
(Layla quickly starts ripping the present open, until there were none left)
Layla: What! Five knitting sets, and five tool boxes. These presents are the worst.
(Her auntie peeks through the kitchen window)
Auntie: Do you not like them?
Layla: No-
(Her mum stares at her)
Layla: I mean, no this is all amazing. Thanks guys.
(Her auntie went back to cooking)
Auntie: AAAAAAAHHHH!
Mum: Oh no, what happened!?
Auntie: Fire, fire!
(Everyone suddenly stands up and runs to the kitchen)
Grandpa: No, the presents!
Mum: My favourite cooking pot!
Auntie: It’s the picture that I gave you!
Uncle: My singing dog!
Layla: Aren’t we going to stop the fire?
(Everyone looks at her, and quickly -from the bathroom- took buckets of water)
Uncle: Quick; start pouring!
(all of them are pouring the water onto the fire)
Grandma: Phew, I think it’s working!
(At last, after thirty minutes or so, everyone put their hands on their knees and were breathed heavily)
All of them: The fire; it’s gone!
Layla: Auntie, did you do this?
(Her aunt looks down to her feet)
Auntie- Yes, I may have.
Mum- Well, this has been quite a part. I think it’s better if you all leave.
Layla- This was the…
BEST PARTY EVER!
All of the guests: We will leave.
(Her mum starts laughing)
Mum: Really, Layla? Are you sure?
(Layla spins around excitedly)
Layla: Yes, I’m very sure!
(she went to hug all of them)
Uncle: Aww, thank you, Layla. Anyway, we should get going. The taxi will arrive soon.
Auntie: Yes, he’s right. Layla, you are amazing.
Layla: Please come back next time!
Grandparents: We sure will.
(Her mum opens the door for them)
Mum and Layla: Bye!
The guests: Bye, bye! See you soon!
