Chapter 1
Two months had passed since our last murder case, and everything seemed innocent, but of course, I was wrong. I was going to spend Christmas with Willow, but I didn’t know where we were going. It was all a mystery, like how you don’t know who committed the murder. Then it was two days into Christmas break, and I received a message on my phone from Willow.
Hi Jade! We’re going camping, you’re going to
come with us. You never know what might happen! We
Will pick you up tomorrow, better start packing!!
I rolled my eyes at the thought of Willow saying 'You never know what might happen' to her message. I wasn’t surprised—not one bit.
“Father, I’m going camping with Willow! You did say I was going to spend the holidays with her. Do you have a bag or luggage, just something? I need to pack; she is coming tomorrow morning.” I cried in French, rushing down the stairs.
“Jade, calm down. Yes, I also have a message from her father. Under my bed there is a bag; you can use that.” I was just about to get the luggage when he stopped me. “Hey, Jade, I need you to be safe. I won’t be there, and I won’t know what you're doing. I know that in the past, you have solved two murder cases, and you're not dead yet. So I understand if you would like to solve any crimes that occur, but that is rare. If you feel scared at any point, stop. You don’t always have to listen to Willow.”
I paused. Was he really letting me dive my way into danger? I smiled softly, then replied, "Yes, father, I promise.”
A grin was revealed on his face, and he walked away.
I didn’t know what to pack—everything? I got the useful stuff first, like my toothbrush, clothes, toothpaste, and, well, I didn’t know what else. At last, I finished packing in less than 30 minutes. It was two o'clock in the afternoon, and I couldn’t wait any longer. I rushed my lunch, even though there was no reason to.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang, and I was hoping that Willow arrived early. My hands tensed, but only a man, wearing a dark blue suit and his hair slicked back, opened the door. “Jade Chen, I come from the campsite in Seven Rivers. I have a letter filled with information; thank you,” the man stated, handing the letter over to my father.
Dear Jade Chen,
Pleasure to meet you, and I hope you enjoy your stay at The Seven Rivers. When you arrive, one of our maids will escort you to your tent. In your previous letter, you announced that you were going with Willow Jones on the same day. You will both meet each other once you arrive. Please enter your name at the entrance; one of the servants will show you.
Kindest regards,
Madam Suchi
Me and Willow would be together once again, and who knows what might happen?
Everything was packed, and there were only a few minutes until bedtime. However, I couldn’t hold it any longer, so I put my pyjamas on. This night was going to be so much easier, and I knew that Willow would be at my doorstep in a few hours.
