Hellen

We couldn’t find any comfortable thing to rest on when we were on the ship, but we made up for that by searching the soldier’s luggage and stacking their neatly folded shirts and pants. We luckily found enough to make a decent cushion for the five of us (most importantly, Simon). We managed to get a few hours of sleep, but my dreams were not pleasant.

I dreamt that the ship hit a new continent, but the instant that we stepped onto the land, we got ambushed by the natives, and half the people that were on the ship were shot by arrows. I was watching one man as he released his arrow, allowing it to fly towards my chest when I sat up abruptly. I decided to roam the boat a bit, while I waited for Philip to awaken. He had promised me that he’d explain his war story once he’d gotten some sleep.

When I was almost out the door of the cabin we were staying in, I heard a hoarse cough coming from behind. I turned to see Simon looking up at me with tiresome eyes. “Hellen?” he asked. “Where are you going?”

“I’m going to wander the ship until your brothers wake up,” I answered. “Do you want to come with me?”

He nodded and stood up. He coughed again before walking over to me. I questioned him, “Are you okay, Simon?”

“I’m okay. I’ve just got a bit of a sore throat. I’m also a little tired, still.”

“You can lie down if you want.”

“No! I’m okay. I just need to wake up a bit more.”

“Well, alright then.” I led Simon out of the chamber. We had only been wandering for two minutes when he asked another question: “Is it just me or is it a bit chilly?”

“I don’t think it’s cold.” I placed my hand on his head. “You’re burning up, Simon. We need to get to Sarah. She’s more medically skilled than me. I can tell you’ve got a fever, but I can’t heal it as well as she can.”

I firmly gripped his arm and steered him back to the chamber, moving as quickly (and quietly) as I could manage.
