Chapter 69

December 17th, 1776

Everyone has been upset for over a month. Everyone is mourning the disappearance of Hellen. I’m not sorry for my actions, however, because she could have had a better life in England, as she has now realized. Simon died, just because of this horrid voyage! I also do feel like a Romeo without his Juliet, and I don’t know why. Hellen is my sister, but I’m not sad that she has departed. Or at least I think I’m not sad. My emotions have always been somewhat mysterious to me.

The only thing that gives me joy is Shakespeare. I feel like he is the only person I can truly relate to. Without reading his plays or poems, and without speaking his great stories, my life would be worthless. Charlotte can question my decisions all she wants. I’m putting Hellen out of my life. I’m not going to take any more heartbreak, or loss because of her stupid antics.

I don’t think staying here in America would be beneficial. I am already a criminal and don’t have any friends, so I’d be better off by myself. I’m deciding to pack up my belongings, and head to Paris. I am boarding a ship tomorrow and leaving behind the life that has happened here. Hellen should know that “Not all that glitters is gold.” I have “borrowed” a few coins from Edmund and can’t wait to leave. The next act of my story starts now. And I hope that it is a good one.

I hope that this document will be preserved with integrity for historical purposes,
