Charlotte
I woke to the sound of an owl’s hoot. The air was cold and crisp. I looked up to see a blanket of gray clouds blocking the blue sky from showing. I began to hear a dog's bark.
“Oh, shut up you hound!” I heard a girl yell. This startled me. I quickly got up to find Alice growling at a dog, causing it to turn away, tail between its legs. Alice looked back at me with a gleeful smile playing on her lips. “You're awake!”
“Did you just growl at a wolf?” I asked my voice full of confusion.
“It wasn’t a wolf. It was one of those bloody dogs!” Alice screamed the last few words in a fit of anger. I noticed that we weren't at the same place that we were last night when I had fallen asleep.
“Did we somehow move places?” I said as I dusted off my dress, which was now covered in snow. It must have snowed in the night.
“Oh yeah! I dragged you!” Alice looked way too happy when she said it.
“You what?!”
“I dragged you!” There was an awkward silence. Well, awkward for me, Alice seemed to be just fine.
“So where are we now?” I asked rocking back and forth on my heels.
“In the woods of Saybrook!” Alice started walking in the direction of what I assumed was a path.
“How are you even still full of energy? I mean, you did drag me all the way out here and I assume you didn’t sleep.”
“Oh, I'm exhausted! I feel like if I blink, I could pass out right here and now. So, I used tree sap to glue my eyes open.”
“Okay...” we continued our journey until we reached the market. Alice pulled about 20 pounds from the pocket of her suit. “Alice, you are the most confusing person I have ever met.”
“I get that a lot.” Alice fiddled with the money in her hand. “let's go and get some coats. Winter is here and we need some warmth.” Alice dragged me into a shop. She bought a few coats and shoved me into a small room protected by a curtain. Alice closed the curtain and threw over a pile of fabric.
“Alice, we came here for coats! Not for a shopping spree!”
“I promise you won't regret this!” I looked at the clothes that she had thrown over.
“Alice, these are for boys!”
“Oh, stop whining!” We ended up leaving the shop, both of us in pants. I had practically been forced to wear this outfit. Alice had threatened me! She’d said, “If you don’t wear the outfit, you won't get a coat!” So, it was either the cold or the warmth. And with the cold air, I wanted the warmth.
We bought some food and shoved it into the bag that I’d packed before leaving. We stopped at the nearest inn so that the two of us could get some sleep before our trip.
