Plan to Stop the Wedding

Chapter 46

Hellen

Charlotte just stared at me like I was delusional. “I’m only thirteen, though. I can’t get married yet.”

“My sister thinks otherwise, and let me tell you, Sarah’s usually insistent about planning special occasions such as this.”

“How is she with persuasion?” asked Charlotte nervously.

“Where do you think I got my skill from?”

Charlotte’s face flushed.

“Don’t worry, I’ve got an idea.”

She became hopeful at these words.

“What’s your idea?”

“Before I tell you, you need to understand one thing.”

“What is it?”

“My plan involves Charles.”

She pondered about that for a second or two but then responded, “That’s fine with me. What’s the plan?”

I explained my idea to her. I didn’t bother to be brief. I probably spoke for an hour or more. I wasn’t exactly paying attention to the clock, but I don’t think Charlotte was either.

By the time I finished explaining my plan, it was already dark outside. “I’ve got to go,” I said quickly before sprinting back to the Turner mansion, grinning from ear to ear. I decided that I’d tell Charles about the plan in the morning. He’d definitely agree with it without hesitation.

I went to my bedroom that evening, ignoring Sarah’s scolds about how I was still wearing Charles’ clothes.

The morning came in a wink. I automatically went to the boys’ bedroom and banged on the door as hard as I could. Philip drowsily opened the door. “What d’you want, Hellen?”

“I need to talk to Charles.”

“He’s asleep.”

“Well, wake him up. I need to speak to him. He’ll thank me for making you wake him. Don’t worry.”

Philip hesitated before turning around. “Charles, get up,” he muttered. My twin simply moaned and rolled over.

Charles!” I yelled, growing impatient.

“Ugh, fine,” He complained as he stood up. I grabbed his arm and dragged him behind me. “Where are we going?”

“The bakery,” I said.

“It’s only seven in the morning.”

“I don’t care. I’ve got a plan that I need to explain to you and Delilah. Charlotte knows it already, so we need not worry about her, but Delilah will be at work in the bakery by now.”

He perked up when he registered that I’d mentioned Charlotte. “What’s your plan?”

“I’ll tell you in a moment.” I was five minutes from the bakery when I said this, so I guess it was more than a moment.

Once we walked in, I asked James to bring Delilah and told Charles to sit at a table.

“Are you going to tell me your plan, now?” Charles asked with irritation.

“Yes, I am, but first let me catch up Delilah.” I explained to Delilah why I’d asked to see her. I then began to explain my plan. “Charles has to marry Charlotte.”
