Am I Haunted?

Chapter 45

Charlotte

I took a pan of cake from the oven placing it out for a while to cool. I put the other two pans full of cake batter in the oven. I sat back on the stool. The door to the shop creaked as customers left.

“How's the cake coming along, Charlotte?” Mother asked, sitting on the stool next to me.

“We should have saved this project for tomorrow morning or just any time tomorrow. I am so tired!” I stretched my arms as I spoke, letting out a yawn.

“Well, you can go to sleep. Grab a few pastries on your way out. I don’t want my daughter to starve herself.” I left the shop taking a muffin with me, and headed back to the house. I swung open the door, taking a bite from the muffin, and walking inside. I walked into the room where we slept and took my shoes off, finally able to relax for the evening.

Suddenly I heard the sound of a door slamming. “Charlotte!” came a voice.

Oh no, I’m being haunted. I panicked.

That was when a figure appeared at the door. “Charles, get out,” I said, automatically.

“I’m offended.” It wasn’t Charles.

“Oh. Sorry, Hellen. Why are you wearing Charles’ clothes?”

“He’s my size and I’m getting sick of running around Connecticut in dresses. Hey, guess what.”

“Yes?”

“Sarah wants me to start wearing corsets. It gives me the feeling that she’s planning something. Oh, and also, she’s trying to plan your wedding.”

“First of all, run. Corsets are the equivalent of, well everything unpleasant you have ever experienced. Second, I’m pretty sure that we will be waiting at least a year before my wedding.”

“Sarah said something along the lines of, ‘Boys will continue to flirt with you if you don’t get married soon.’”

“Oh please. What's so wrong with constantly getting compliments.”

“Charlotte. Just think of it like Charles he is basically going mad over you. I'm pretty sure if we were to search his room, we’d find multiple creepy poems about you.”

“Well then if we would find the poems, I would most likely notify the authorities about  him.”

“Still, Sarah implied that she wants your wedding to be in a week or two.”
