Chapter 25

Charlotte

“My goodness! What is wrong with him? I’m engaged.” I laughed with Hellen.

“That’s Charles for you. He clearly thinks your worth liking.” Hellen said as she looked back at the boys.

“I can see that,” I said also turning back to the boys. “We’re here!” Edmund, Charles, and Hellen looked up at the shop.

“Charlotte, this shop looks like a homeless man runs it!” Edmund complained.

“Mr. Terramina is a kind man. He gives me discounts.” I said as we entered the store. It had been a few weeks since I last spoke to him.

“Charlotte? Is that you sweetheart?” I heard a man's voice call.

“Yes, it is,” I replied as the four of us entered the store. Edmund looked very uncomfortable.

“I’ve never been to a poor man’s shop before,” Edmund said a bit too loud.

“Ouch,” I heard Mr. Terramina say.

“I apologize Mr. Terramina. He's my fiancé,” I said while grabbing a few eggs.

“Wait! Fiancé? I think I misheard you! FIANCE?”

“Yes. It's an arranged marriage though.”

“Oh. I wouldn’t have guessed. He seems—er—nice?” Mr. Terramina hesitated when he said nice.

“We should be on our way! Do you have everything Hellen?” Hellen nodded. I dragged Edmund from the shop before he could get any angrier. I dragged Edmund all the way back to the mansion. We stopped for a second because Hellen wanted to explore a dress shop. The two boys and I waited outside.

“A plague o’ both your houses. You have made worms’ meat of me.” Charles said as soon as Hellen entered the shop.

“Oh, put a sock in it, Shakespeare!” Edmund shouted at Charles.

“Guys we shouldn’t do this right now!” I squeaked in fear.

“Oh, it's on Bird Brain!” Charles yelled at Edmund. Edmund shoved me out of the way, causing me to fall. Oh god. The two boys continued to beat each other bloody. I felt tears fill my eyes.

“Stop!” I screamed. The two boys continued to tackle each other. They both were forming bruises and opening cuts on each other's heads. I tried pulling Charles off of Edmund, but he just shoved me off him. Edmund somehow rolled over and began punching Charles. I ran into the shop in a hurry. I started to run towards the entrance of the shop. Edmund grabbed my leg trying to stop me. Then they rolled over again with Charles on top of Edmund. Charles tried peeling Edmund’s hand off my leg but instead drew blood from my leg with his nail. I kicked off Edmund and ran into the shop.

“Hellen!”
