Diagon Alley
Chapter 2
Day 2
So, Diagon Alley was not at all what I expected. I got my new wand, though!
Mum opened the gate and we steppd through, only to see crowds everywhere. It seemed everybody had the same idea as us. We struggled to Madam Malkin's to buy my new robes with my friend, Penny. After our fittings, we went to the Apothecary. It was so weird buying the potion ingredients. I mean, these were the creatures I had always found in the forest beyond the house, the bugs and beetles. Flourish and Blott's was the worst, though. Me, Mum, and Penny had to fight our way through the people. By the time we had bought our copies of books, Mum looked ready to cast a Freezing Charm on the crowds.
We almost didn't go to Ollivander's because Mum was so tired of walking around. But once she saw how unhappy we were, she immediately started walking. I was so scared, but Mr. Ollivander was sooo nice! Even though it took me fifteen boxes of wands to find mine, he kept on going. My soul match was a unicorn hair wand made of pine wood, 10 3/4 inches, hard flexibility. Penny found hers on the first try, and hers was elm wood, dragon heartstring, 9 inches, nice and supple. I'll never forget that wand shop.
When we walked out of Ollivander's, Mum took us straight to the pet shop! I already had Dawn, but Mum said since Dawn was the family owl, I could have another one! She even bought Penny one, even though Penny said she could buy her own. I got another tawny brown one with big dark eyes, while Penny bought a snowy owl with icy blue eyes.
After we went to the pet shop, Mum decided to look at some dragon leather boots. She said we could go window shopping. Penny and I started to walk down the alley. Then, some boys riding down the alley crashed into us. "You almost ruined our brooms! First years, ha!"
"Leave us alone!" Penny yelled. I couldn't look.
"Let's teach these little squirts a lesson." one of them said. The others nodded and cracked their knuckles. I didn't hear the footsteps behind them, and neither did they.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Mum yelled from behind them. The biggest one fell down in a total Body-Bind Curse. The others stared at him, then ran for their lives.
"Thank you, Mum!" I said, almost crying. "Thank you too, Penny. That was really brave." Penny shrugged and blushed.
"Now you know how mean some people can be." Mum said. "They were worse with You-Know-Who, but thanks to Harry Potter, that won't happen anymore. Now, Penny, let's get you home."
Man, I was close to tears today. Let's hope that when I'm finished with Hogwarts, that will never happen again.
Yours Truly,
