Liber Singularis Carminum: A Unique Collection Of Magic.

written by [No Name]

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft of Wizardry provides a suitable education to the budding youths of the magical community. That said, it doesn't quite teach you everything there is to know. Inside you will find a compilation of spells ranging from utility charms to defensive jinxes. Inspired by the book 'Mondelwyn's Encyclopaedia of Enchantments,' available in the Library.

Lux: Charms Of Light.

Chapter 2

1.1  The Wand-Lighting Charm

Incantation: Lumos.

Motion: A tight, clockwise circle.

Termination: The Wand-Extinguishing
Charm (2.1).

This charm is typically the first a wizard will ever learn
due to its wonderfully simplistic nature. It creates a small (yet rather
bright!) source of light at the tip of one’s wand. A correctly conjured Lumos
charm will be a yellow-white colour, anything more orangey than this has been
overcharged and will quickly dissipate.

The superlative version of this spell, ‘Lumos Maxima,’ allows
one to detach the source of the light from the wand, sending it wherever they
wish (using the wand) to light a much greater area than the standard Lumos
charm.

Variations:
This spell has several variations other than the ones listed distinctly
in this book. Usually, these involve changes of colour to the lighting, often
used by Quidditch fans supporting their team by using the team’s colours. This
is done by speaking the Latin word for the colour following the incantation, i.e. "Lumos Viridis" for green, or "Lumos Caeruleus" for blue.

1.2  The Dancing Lights Charm

Incantation:
Lumos Numerosa.

Motion: A tight, clockwise circle
followed by two more, quicker circles.

Termination: The Wand-Extinguishing
Charm (2.1).

This charm conjures several, small sources of light. They can
be controlled individually by the caster, allowing for more precise (and
atmospheric) lighting. Despite still being considered experimental, the Dancing
Lights charm is very safe to use and not too much more difficult than the
regular wand-lighting charm. It does require slightly more concentration than
the basic charm, though it takes little time to master.

Variations: This spell, like the regular wand-lighting charm, can produce differing colours of light. It is done the same way as with Lumos, i.e. "Lumos Viridis" for a green light, but by then performing the rest of the incantation and wand movement for the dancing lights charm. So in total, "Lumos Viridis Numerosa". A particularly well-trained wizard could colour each individual light differently by using the incantation, "Lumos Iris Numerosa".

1.3  The Sunlight Charm

Incantation:
Lumos Solem.

Motion: A tight, clockwise circle
followed quick flick in the target direction.

Termination: Extinguishes naturally
over a few seconds.

This
charm produces an intense beam of solar light, likened to that of an immensely
powerful torch. It cannot be produced for long bouts of time, usually capping
at around five seconds. This charm is useful as protection against certain
beings, such as the Devil’s Snare.

1.4  The Hidden Light Charm ☆☆☆☆☆

Incantation: Lumos Arcanum.
Motion: A tight, clockwise circle followed by a zig-zag/lightning bolt motion.
Termination: The Wand-Extinguishing Charm (2.1).

This charm is incredibly difficult to perform, but if done correctly, produces a Lumos charm that conjures light that is only visible to the caster. This brings stealth to a whole new level, allowing you to navigate around a dark room with ease, but without giving away your location. If performed incorrectly, you could find the light 'leaks' through into others' vision, which defeats the idea of remaining stealthy. But fortunately, this is the only 'backfire' of sorts that I have come across, there is no real danger to performing this charm incorrectly.
