Ravenclaw Common Room Door-Knocker Riddles

Chapter 8

While you are still enjoying this brand new issue of our magazine in the first month of the brand new year, here's yet another riddle previously asked by the eagle-shaped doorknocker at the Ravenclaw Common Room entrance to keep it fun and entertaining as usual.

This month's Ravenclaw Common Room Door-Knocker Riddle is: -

"If you've cast too many spells,

Take some time to rest.

Exercise gives you sore muscles.

Practicing too many charms doesn't make you feel your best.

It starts with nausea, breathlessness, and fatigue.

And finally, you can't even stand.

You have difficulty doing almost anything.

If you end up casting accidental magic, I would understand.

What is that two-word phrase

that describes this feeling you get?

The more you practice, the less easily it sets in.

So keep practicing if you don't want to regret.

Stow any precious objects away

Whenever this feeling sets in.

Give yourself enough time to recover.

Do not stretch yourself thin."

Answer it correctly and win five Knuts, a free advertising opportunity in the pages of our magazine, as well as a special mention of your name in the next issue of our magazine. Owl your answers to Hiya Debnath, Compiler and Publisher, Hogwarts Monthly Magazine, or drop it in "The Hogwarts Monthly Magazine Office" to claim your prizes.

Last month, both riddles were correctly answered by none other than Dane Lautner, a sixth-year Slytherin student, Transfiguration Head Student, Potions and History of Magic Professor Assistant at Hogwarts, and Evony Senoj, a second-year Slytherin student, Transfiguration, Charms, and Flying Professor Assistant at Hogwarts. The Hogwarts Monthly Magazine Editorial and Publishing Team would like to express their congratulations and best wishes to Dane Lautner and Evony Senoj for the same.

The correct answers were: -

Forgetfulness Potion

Bowtruckles (bonus riddle)

Last month's riddles were: -

"If you suffer from loss of memory,

This potion will only cause further injury.

May often be used by a prankster,

One of its ingredients is Lethe River water.

Store it somewhere dark and cool.

If you drink it on an important day, you'll be a fool.

Discovered in the 16th century,

Its history is shrouded in mystery,

As on herself, its Spanish maker tested,

Only to forget the process in which she was so highly invested."

Bonus riddle -

"Guardians of wand wood,

Humanoid, though small,

Like wood-lice and fairy eggs for food,

Though undoubtedly fairy eggs best of all,

Dangerous creatures,

Guard your eyes,

Loyal to a single home tree,

Throughout their lives."

Explanation: -

Forgetfulness Potion - The Forgetfulness Potion in its current form, as the name suggests, causes its drinker to suffer from temporary memory loss for its duration. It may also induce mild carelessness and cause the drinker to become scatterbrained briefly, which is why it is a common tool used by pranksters. The potion can be dangerous to consume if you already suffer from memory problems, neurological issues, or brain injury, as it can sometimes result in permanent memory loss. One of the ingredients of the Forgetfulness Potion is two drops of Lethe River water. The potion needs to be stored in a dark and cool place after allowing maturation for two days at room temperature. It is essential to avoid this potion on an important day or a day on which one needs to make major life decisions, change passwords, or take security measures, for obvious reasons. The Forgetfulness Potion was discovered in the 16th century by a Spanish witch named Frederica Quimia. She did not record the process that brought her to correctly brewing the Forgetfulness Potion and tested the potion on herself, which led to her forgetting the process she had perfected after so much experimentation.

These facts are directly taken from the first-year Potions lessons at Hogwarts.

Bowtruckles - Bowtruckles are tree guardians, as small as a human hand. They are stick-like creatures, shaped somewhat like humans. They specifically guard trees that provide wand wood, and they can only be distracted by food. Therefore, to harvest wand wood or leaves from a tree that provides wand wood, one would have to draw away the Bowtruckle's attention by giving them woodlice or fairy eggs to eat. Bowtruckles are better won over with fairy eggs. They are dangerous creatures with two razor-sharp fingers on each hand, which are used to defend themselves and their home tree against an attacker. They are typically rather aggressive towards anyone, or anything, that comes near their home tree and will try to gouge out the offender's eyes. Bowtruckles are in a very close relationship with their home trees and will typically spend their entire life guarding a single home tree as long as the tree is healthy.

These facts are directly taken from the second-year Care of Magical Creatures lessons at Hogwarts.
