A Taste of Magic - Eleanor's Harry Potter Era Recipes

Chapter 14

Hello Readers,

I am going to guide you through two delicious recipes full of creativity and imagination—recipes that will put a smile on your face. Not much of a baker? No need for talent; these are simple, effortless, and just for you.

First up, we have Hagrid’s famous rock cakes, loaded with some of the most inviting and mouth-watering flavours.

Ingredients:

- 230g all-purpose flour

- 1 ¼ teaspoons baking powder

- 1 teaspoon ground allspice

- a pinch of salt

- a pinch of nutmeg

- 120g unsalted butter

- 100g muscovado sugar

- 125g chopped dried fruits

- one egg

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

2. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, allspice, salt, and nutmeg. Add the soft butter and rub it into the flour with your hands until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

3. Chop the larger dried fruits, if using. Sultanas, raisins or cranberries can be left whole.

4. Combine: Beat the egg lightly in a small bowl. Stir the chopped fruits and egg into the flour-butter mixture with your hand or a spoon.

5. Divide the dough into 10 heaps and place the heaps on the prepared baking tray. You should not try to give them a nice shape, leave them rough so that they can resemble rocks in the end.

6. Bake for about 18–20 minutes, or until golden brown. Leave to cool on the baking tray for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store airtight.

Not only Hagrid's rock cakes, I am also going to show you yet another recipe - a rich and divine pumpkin juice! Neither an hour nor thirty minutes, it only takes up five minutes of your day. A nice and simple drink made for you to enjoy.

Ingredients:

- apple cider

- pumpkin purée

- sugar

- pumpkin pie spice

- vanilla

- optional garnishes

Instructions:

1. Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and stir well.

2. Pour over ice in individual glasses, and top with cinnamon sticks and a straw. (Apple slices optional)

3. Stir again before each serving to prevent settling.

These are two simple and flavoursome recipes. Try any one of these, and it will brighten your days, every single one.

Enjoy cooking!
