Chapter 3

Centaur - Centaur

The Centaur is a very well known magical creature that muggles, it seems, have regarded them as merely myth or legend. They are depicted in many Greek works as being chaotic and barbaric, though this is almost certainly a misunderstanding of the Centaurs territorial nature. There is no mention of Centaurs ever being, even remotely interested in the art of Divination, or in Stargazing. It is likely that ancient muggles merely could never see past the barbaric visage they had created for them, or that it was simply a custom created over time.

Chimaera - ChimaeraChimera_Apulia_Louvre_K362.jpg

The Chimaera is yet another magical creature recognised in Greek culture, though is now regarded as mythological. It is typically described as being a lion with the head of a goat, a goat’s head jutting from its back, and a snake-like tail, often described as ending in a snake head. It is possible however that the beast, having actually having no goats head, was incorrectly given one through translation or through misinterpretation, since these beasts are difficult to study given their aggressive nature. The creature is said to have the head of a lion, body of a goat, and tail of a dragon (The tail of a snake, as described in Greek art, is a misunderstanding given the reptilian nature of the tail can be easily confused with that of another). An account of the only known slaying of a Chimaera is given in the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newton Scamander, where a man (Not specified in the text, but now known as Bellerophon) had killed the beast, only to later fall from his Pegasis (See section ‘P’) due to exhaustion.

Chizpurfle - Muggle Electric Failure

There is no account of any sighting of the Chizpurfle, that is in the muggle world, however, the Chizpurfle has been responsible, most commonly, for electric failures. Chizpurfle, while mainly being thaumavores (feeding off of magic), are also known to be electrovores (feeding off of electricity) in the muggle world, this explaining the sudden and seemingly unexplainable failure of new muggle electrical devices.

Clabbert - Loveland Frog/Missing Link

The Loveland Frog is described as being roughly 4 feet in height, and is described as a frog-like man. These Clabberts have been, it seems, a part of Loveland, Ohio’s culture, as a musical number was made attributed to the sightings, those of which occurred first in 1955, then in 1972, although stories are said to have been passed down for decades. The sightings are also said to occur in regular and predictable cycles. There was also a sighting in Babylon, New York by a woman, of what she describes as being a, “large glowing red orb”. She says it was located around 30-40 feet in the pine tree, she found no explanation of the light, she then says her neighbors at the time, upon explaining what she saw, acted as though she were, “a bit nutty” It is believed the Clabbert was owned by the neighbors, as they were a wizarding family.

Crup - Jack Russell Terrierdog-growl-communication-675553-.jpg

The Crup is a magical animal said to closely resemble the Jack Russell Terrier (after their forked tail is painlessly removed by a severing charm when the creature is 6-8 weeks old), it is also said to be loyal to witches and wizards, however appears “ferocious” to  muggles. In the muggle world, in the journal, Applied Animal Behavior Science, the Jack Russell Terrier is counted as the third most aggressive dog breed, this may be attributed to the population of, (now hard to determine due to the crups having their trademark forked tails removed) crups which have either run away, or been given to a muggle animal shelter and been adopted by an unknowing muggle family.
