Other Cores (E, F)
Chapter 9
Erkling Fang
Wands with a core made from the fangs of erkling are quite common in Germany, in part due to efforts to control the population of these elf-like creatures. These wands possess proficiency in the Dark Arts, hexes, and jinxes. Although they are not superior in any one discipline, their speed at casting spells compensates for this shortcoming.
Erumpent Hide
Erumpent Hide wands are rarely crafted due to their difficulty to manage and lack of stability. However, when paired with a more gentle core such as Unicorn Tail Hair, they can enhance the power of the spells. However, due to the danger presented by the Erumpent and the risk involved, the majority of wandmakers do not work with this material. These wands are extremely hard to find since they are obtained by the act of killing an Erumpent, which is a notoriously difficult feat, given their thick skin capable of repelling spells. These wands are most suitable for the study of Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Charms.
Fairy Dust
Seldom utilized in contemporary wandmaking, due to its lack of diversity and dependability. The wands produced from this substance are usually weak unless the wielder is studying Arithmancy, Divination, or Astrology, where these wands can be powerful. On the other hand, if the wand becomes overloaded, it will misfire, and it will not cast any spells unless you are practising with Arithmancy, Divination, or Astrology.
Fairy Wings
Fairy wings are commonly used as a core for wands, particularly for charms. These wands are light and airy, making them a great pairing with witches and wizards who have exceptional "Sight." (in terms of Divination and similar disciplines) Wands with this core are typically preferred by Hufflepuff members, while they are extremely rare in Slytherin House. This core is relatively weak, although it excels at charms - that is its primary power. However, it has limited capacity for performing hexes, and it isn't effective at casting offensive spells, making it a more supportive wand core. Fairy wing wands typically bond with Seers, individuals who possess "The Sight."
Frost Salamander Skin
Fwooper Feather
The individual who possesses a wand with the feather of a Fwooper as its core should be cautious. The creature has been known to slowly drive those in its vicinity insane, with the rumour that the use of the feathers in wands has a comparable outcome. However, wands with this core tend to perform fairly well with Charms and the Care of Magical Creatures, with some caution. It is nearly impossible to cast Quietus with these wands, so be warned.
