Chapter 7

The day after the battle was eerie. Hogwarts was in shambles. Many lives were lost, inlcuding children as young as eleven years old. Draco, Harry, Hermione, Thomas, the Weasleys and I were all hanging out at The Burrow during our time of grief. Draco appologized hundreds of times and explained his situation. He confessed that he always wanted to be friends and never wanted to be a bully. he just felt he had to in order to please his father. He feels safe saying this because we heard on the radio that morning that Lucius Malfoy, Augustus Rookwood, and many other Death Eaters were sent to Azkaban. My brother was also sent there, but I immediatley sent a letter explaining that he is a good man and that he was forced to join them. He never killed anyone during the battle. Luckily, this letter got him a court hearing at the Ministry, where he was found innocent.

At the Burrow, Draco pulled me aside into Ron's empty bedroom for a chat.

"Yesterday made me realize that life is short. I shouldn't waste my days being mean, or pretending we're just friends. I wasted so much of my life already. I missed out on good friendships and and amazing girlfriend. I don't want to waste anymore time. Abi, will you marry me?"

This was one of the best days of my life. Of course I said yes, but given our current situation, we decided not to share the news for a couple months. In September 1998, Draco and I were pronounced husband and wife.
