Chapter 2

A


Aconite


Aconite, also known as wolf bane, is a flower with highly toxic leaves. It is helpful for many potions and the roots, flowers, and leaves can be used for different purposes. Aconite must be handled carefully because the leaves are poisonous to the touch.


Alihotsy


Alihotsy is a type of magical tree that is nicknamed the Hyena Tree. Its leaves induce hysterical laughter when consumed, and can be used to create an Alihotsy Draught. 


Asphodel


Asphodel is a special plant that is a common potion ingredient. It is used alongside wormwood to create the Draught of Living Death.  It is a flower that muggles once believed to be grown in the underworld. However, asphodel can be grown easily.


B


Belladonna


Belladonna is a poisonous plant that is very unsafe for consumption. It is still used in a variety of potions as Essence of Belladonna. Some people used to believe that it was the plant of the devil. Its berries look similar to elderberries, and many witches and wizards have eaten it without realizing.


Bouncing Bulb


A bouncing bulb is a magical plant that will jump around uncontrollably if not restrained. Young bouncing bulbs are small but they can grow very large. They are used in a few potions.


Bubotuber


Bubotubers are slug-shaped plants that are filled with a large amount of pus with an unpleasant odour. When undiluted, bubotuber pus can cause swelling and boils, however, it also provides a remedy for stubborn acne when correctly used.


C


Chinese Chomping Cabbage


Chinese Chomping Cabbages are a version of the normal non-magical cabbages. However, Chomping Cabbages have rows of little teeth and like to attack anything they can. They are sometimes used in combat.


Cowbane


Cowbane is a poisonous plant used in some potions such as Shrinking Soloution and Doxycide. It is a non-magical plant yet is still very useful and is grown in many greenhouses.


D


Dandelion


Dandelions are small yellow flowers, considered weeds by muggles. The roots are used in many potions, and the flowers can be brewed into a delicious juice. Muggles also believe that Dandelions hold wishes and grant your wishes when blown into the wind.


Devils Snare


Devils Snare is a pesky yet beautiful plant, with snake-like black tentacle vines that wrap around anything that comes near it and trap the thing. They grow in dark, secluded spaces and hate light and heat.


Dirigible Plum


A Dirigible plum is a magical fruit that looks like an upside down orange radish. They grow on bushes and  are served as delicacies in many places. Some believe that Dirigibble Plums enhance your ability to accept the impossible, and it can be good for your health in small doses.
