Introduction
Chapter 1
The wizarding world is a complex, hidden community. We rely on many magical things to aid and assist us, including plants! Plants, both magical and non magical, are very important for the magic community. They are ingredients for potions, used for cooking, and even useful in combat.
In fact, all plants are important for every living thing. Animals and humans alike rely on plants as food sources, and there are many non magical uses of plants as well. Plants can be changed, they can go from a flower to a muggle lip balm. Plants can be eaten. Plants can be made into a healing salve.
Any healer can tell you that plants have been used for generations as a way to heal and care for sick or injured people. For many years, dittany has been a key ingredient for the wiggenweld potion, a healing potion. Even muggles realise the importance of plants, and have discovered that certain berries can heal a sore throat, and so on.
What muggles do not understand is the importance of magical plants. Magical plants, while not better or superior to 'mundane' plants, are extremely helpful and have many useful properties.
Not only are plants helpful, plants are living things. They are not objects to be ignored and only used when needed, they are complex organisms that can act like humans and animals, in a different way.
The whomping willow is a type of magical plant that is very defensive and can flail its limbs when something strange comes near it. This behaviour is similar to that of a hedgehog, which curls up and leaves only its sharp spikes to harm anything that gets too close.
In this book, you will learn about many of the magical plants and their properties. What they do, how to grow them and more.
