Lesson 01/04 Notes: Imps & Bowtruckles
Chapter 4
BEASTS & CLASSIFICATIONS:
The three defined categories are beast, being and spirit. The Ministry defines a being as "any creature that has sufficient intelligence to understand the laws of the magical community and to be apart of the responsibility in shaping those laws". The current definition of a beast was developed in 1811 by the Minister of Magic (at the time Grogan Stump).
Each creature is categorized as a beast classification;
X boring
XX harmless
XXX competent, wizards should cope
XXXX dangerous/needs special training
XXXXX known wizard/witch killer
IMPS:
XX harmless
Originally from Britain and Ireland. About six to eight inches tall. Are known as tricksters, they tend to live in marshy areas. In any case they won't do much harm; tripping you or dropping branches on you. If you end up near an aggressive Imp you can use the knockback jinx to stun them or the verdimillious charm to stun them.
BOWTRUCKLES:
XX harmless
No taller than eight inches. Incredibly difficult to spot since their main defence mechanism is to blend in with trees. They only live in trees capable of producing wand wood. They are completely unaffected by magic. They love to eat woodlice and fairy eggs. If you don't have their favourite foods on hand, get away from their tree. As harmless and as small as they are - they have claws sharp enough to break human skin.
KNOCKBACK JINX:
Uses more concentration. A blue light will hit the target, knocking them in a way where they feel like they've been punched.
