Harry'S Second Year
Chapter 6
Harry's second year was an eventful one, and I've selected three events that have happened, along with some interviews.
1 - The Opening of the Chamber of Secrets
The fabled Chamber of Secrets, along with its beast, Salazar Slytherin's Basilisk, was unleashed unwillingly on the school by first year Ginny Weasley, later to become Potter's wife.
Ginevra Potter on the Second Opening of the Chamber of Secrets
"I really had no idea what I was doing. I would always go into a fog and then wake up to a lot of catastrophe. I wrote about the Opening of the Chamber on a corridor wall, and I woke up with blood all down my front. It really was a horrid year. I almost died that year."
Yes, it is true that Ginevra Weasley nearly died in the Chamber, her life force drained by the possessed diary of the Dark Lord himself, which was destroyed later that year. It turned out to be one of the Horcruxes of the Dark Lord.
2 - Gilderoy Lockhart's Change of Memory
According to sources, faux explorer Gilderoy Lockhart, recently released from St. Mungo's Hospital after a very long stay, indeed, lost all his memory after he tried to modify Potter's and Ron Weasley's memories using Weasley's wand.
Ronald Weasley on Gilderoy Lockhart's Loss of Memory
"He snatched my wand, said he was going to modify [mine and Harry's] memories. He said the words, then my wand sort of sparked, then he got this far-away look in his eyes, like he was momentarily out of focus. Then, he sort of fainted. He came round when Harry came back after rescuing Ginny. He was very...wierd."
3 - The Petrifying of Hogwarts Students
During the year, a total of 8 students were Petrified by the Basilisk, including Hermione Granger, future wife of Mr. Ronald Weasley.
Hermione Weasley on her Petrification
"I was in the library researching when I heard something funny. I grabbed my mirror, in case it was the Basilisk, and I saw the bright yellow eyes. My vision started fogging up, and I couldn't move, but I could still see. Well, not really. I could distinguish light and shapes, but I couldn't really see. My hearing was off, too. Before I had been Petrified, I grasped my notes in my arms in case I was, in order to aid Ron and Harry."
