Her grandmother looked at the little girl with love. She was only three years old, but she was very clever and mischievous, and she certainly enjoyed listening to her grandmother's memories at night. She laughed beautifully, as if peace had come to the world.
She was yawning again, sleepy, but the little girl insisted on staying awake. "Tell me, grandma," she mumbled, slurring her words. The grandmother's eyes were full of tears. When she was little she rarely saw her parents, they were always traveling. And when they came home, they would have big celebrations and they would not see her. Yes, they didn't see her, people on the outside would think she was happy.
She was rich anyway, she had lots of nice clothes, lots of nice toys. She had everything, but no real family. She made a promise to herself that if she ever had a child, she would never leave her without love. She did that at one point, but her daughter had run away.
She never heard from her daughter until one day she received a phone call, and that day she received the news of both a new life and a death. Her daughter was dead... She also had a baby in the car she crashed. The father of the baby didn't even know he had a baby because he later learned that the baby, the little girl, was born from a one-night stand.
But she didn't cry for a single day at her grandmother's, who was now both her mother and her father.
"The flower girl," murmured the little girl as she tugged at her sweater. Oh, she loved this story so much that she still couldn't get tired of listening to it. And her grandmother began to tell it:
"One day there was a celebration at home..."
