HOUSE ELF SAVES MASTER FROM NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE

Last week, on the third of February, an extraordinary and impressive
demonstration of loyalty took place when House Elf Mini saved her master from a
lethal poisoning curse. Angus Kern, aged sixty-eight and master of Mini, almost
died from the spell and would have if Mini hadn't been on hand.

The two were walking in Knockturn Alley, Kern later admitting he had
been scolding Mini harshly, when two drunken thugs ambushed the pair. They were
highly intoxicated but very strong, and, within a few seconds, had knocked down
the elderly wizard and were taking his wallet, which they proceeded to ram into
his mouth. Onlookers realized what was happening just as the two drunkards both
hit Kern with the highly dangerous poison curse, Dinamigae. Before anyone could
react, however, Mini the House Elf had disarmed and stunned the attackers and
had removed the wallet from her now unconscious Master's throat. Mini then
rushed into the nearest shop and proceeded to retrieve treatments for the acute
poisoning and saved her master with her great knowledge of treatments.
Witnesses described Mini to have been 'calm, collected and swift in her
reactions', dealing with the scene before many even arrived there.

Arcus Kern was later taken to St. Mungo’s by Mini and a team of
mediwizards, and later became conscious once more. Kern then offered freedom to
his elf for her loyalty even though he had mistreated her, and she accepted the
the woolly scarf and then told him that, despite being free, she would continue
to work for him. Kern was delighted and also promised pay and better treatment.
Healer Brianna Marsh, who witnessed the heartfelt moments, stated;

"I have never
come across a more devoted house elf. The very fact she decided to stay despite
his mistreatment and her chance of freedom was such a sacrifice and I now
support Mrs. Weasley's new house elf laws even more as a result."

Indeed, the incident further supports Hermione Weasley's campaign for
house elf freedom. The laws she is tying to pass include House Elf choice of
enslavery and pay is required for every one. She said;

"This once again
proves that house elves do not have to be slaves and will often remain with
their owners even if they are given the choice of freedom. I am not campaigning
for house elves to leave their owners, I simply wish for them to be able to
make their own decisions in life."

When Mini herself was interviewed, she agreed with this;

"I think very few
house elves would leave their masters as we feel our place is to assist them.
However, being given the choice of freedom and my own pay gives me a new-found
liberty that I think all of my kind should get to experience."

Mini is now receiving
16 Galleons a week as pay and is taking classes in healing on her days off. She
has now been given the title of Angus Kern's nurse an is treated as so, with
her own living space, clothing and weekends. She is aiming to become the first
House Elf healer and seems to be on the path to success with incredible talents
