PTNS-101 WEEK II

Chapter 7

A potion is a magical concoction made up of magical, mundane, and transitional ingredients.

A compound is a single substance made up of two or more atoms. A common example is water.

A compound is defined by being made up of the same molecule over and over again.

A mixture combines two or more compounds together. Mixtures can be heterogeneous or homogeneous. A heterogeneous mixture is when you can see the different parts that make up the mixture. Meanwhile, a homogeneous does not allow you to literally see the parts of the mixture, but they can still be separated without a chemical change.

A potion is a mixture of compounds, because it combines multiple compounds in the cauldron, including water, your magical ingredients, and your mundane materials.

A solution is a type of mixture. A solution occurs when there is a smaller amount of one substance known as a solute, which is dispersed in a larger amount of another substance, known as a solvent. A good example is our atmosphere.

A phase transition is the term for when one of the state phases transitions to another. This happens when there is a change in energy, usually through a gain or loss of heat, which is the tangible evidence of thermal energy.
