Chapter 23

MUGGL THOUGHTS

From these accounts, we get an example of Muggle intolerance of magic. They say that Heinrich von Winkelried allegedly killed a dragon. Whether it was him or a wizard is up for debate. However, it is said that as soon as he came into contact with the dragon's blood, he died.

Dragon's Blood on its own has extensive positive magical attributes and is also used in numerous beneficial potions.

MAGICAL WORLD

In the wizarding world, these beasts are also dangerous, but wizards have learned that almost all of their parts can be used in potions and other magical activities. Albus Dumbledore discovered twelve magical uses for dragon's blood, as well as an anesthetic, pain reliever, cleaning agent, disinfectant agent, and even poisons.

Heartstring is used in wands and is considered one of the most powerful cores.

Claws, dung, horn, hide, liver, and meat are also used for a wide variety of magical purposes.

Dragonskin is impervious to most spells, with the stun being one of the few that affects moderately, however, when dead, you could hardly damage the skin, tissues, and organs with magic.

The liver is used as an antidote for strong poisons. It is difficult to cut, but it can be done with patience and muscle; if you used a magic cut, it would be of no use.

Since this protection persists even after the dragon's death and is universally present in all dragon species, some dragonologists have surmised that this magical immunity may be encoded somewhere within the dragon's own DNA.

Another theory is that rather than a particular part of a dragon's DNA assigning magical resistance to beasts, their DNA and their very existence are so drenched in magical energy that when they become recipients of any additional magical energy, they regardless of intent, it does make some kind of impact, but that burst of energy is more like a small drop falling into a vast ocean.

In the year 1709, the breeding of dragons was prohibited in the Convention of Witches. Therefore, while there are places like the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary that are dedicated to the preservation and study of dragons, it is impossible to breed them for further study purposes.

Another strictly regulated aspect of dragons is the trade in dragon eggs. These are a strict Non-Tradeable Class A Material in the wizarding world, although of course, as soon as you ban something, many of those who insist on getting it start doing it on the black market.

Claws are known to increase memory and intelligence as well as improve focus and are therefore often sought after by students trying to get a head start as they progress towards OWL and NEWT level exams. While dragon's claw is not addictive like any other artificial stimulant, it does come with its own dangers. A dragon's claws do not permanently give you more intellect or memory, but rather increase the chemical levels in your brain to temporarily increase these attributes

As such, using this ingredient for a long period of time can ultimately wear down your nervous system (the system that transmits nerve impulses within your body) and lead to some pretty concerning permanent effects.
