Chapter 18
ABORIGINAL LIFE
Aboriginal magical practices in Australia are some of the oldest in the modern world, having inhabited the continent for some 70,000 years. They are organized into tribes that speak different languages, and within each tribe, there are smaller divisions like families and clans. Almost all fall into one of two halves, creating a dichotomy that also applies to animals, plants, and totems. This division often separated those with magical abilities from those without, leading to intermarriage and high levels of magical ability in the Aboriginal population. Their magic was adapted to nature and was powerful in that realm, allowing them to perform feats such as breathing underwater and adapting to their surroundings while hunting. For centuries, they had little contact with the outside world, but in the mid to late 18th century, they began to interact with other cultures to a greater extent.
COLONIZATION
In the late 18th century, many European witches and wizards moved to Australia to escape non-magical overpopulation and the Industrial Revolution in Europe. They established small towns in the interior of the continent, but this had a negative impact on the aboriginal tribes, as European settlers ignored their presence and reclaimed the land. This led to disease, displacement, and depletion of natural resources for Aboriginal people. Colonization and ethnocentrism led to the dehumanization of the natives and a lack of respect for their traditions. Despite this, the Aboriginal way of life persisted and today Australia is home to a variety of traditional and contemporary magical practices.
DANUNDA MAGICAL ACADEMY
Danunda Magical Academy is located in the Northern Regions of Australia, in an area initially considered "uninhabitable". However, the founders considered it perfect and made it more hospitable with protective and adaptive charms. Before its creation, Australian wizarding students sent their children to schools in Europe, but due to the growth of the wizarding population in Australia, it was decided to build their own institution. Currently, some students, especially those with an Aboriginal background, opt for exchange programs instead of attending traditional wizarding academies.
