Monster (Marauders Era)
Rachel Wagner doesn't want to have anything to do with the Marauders. She wants to stay the quiet, ignored girl that she was since she started school.
But when she and Remus Lupin begin studying together at the library every night, she wonders if all the Marauders are as bad as Sirius and James.
Meanwhile, a brilliant and powerful wizard named Tom Riddle is gaining followers all the time. He is looking for excellent wizards all around England to carry out his duties. He decides to look at Hogwarts first, disguising himself as a temporary Herbology teacher. Few students even know about Tom Riddle's growing power, and not many of them are willing to warn others about “Professor Delrid.” Luckily, one of them happens to be Remus John Lupin, who is willing to tell Dumbledore about this either brilliant or monstrous wizard. But what happens when Rachel finds out about Remus's “furry little problem,” and Rachel decides to confide in Professor Delrid?

Chapter Five - Remus
Chapter 6
“Moony! MOONY! Breakfast's
in five minutes, mate!” Sirius screamed, throwing the covers off my
bed. I wiped my eyes.
“Okay, okay. Here I
come...” my head went limp against the pillow. Sirius punched me in
the gut.
“COME ON!” he shouted. I
wiped the sleep out of my eyes.
“Yeah, I'm coming.” I
muttered. I climbed out of bed and tugged on my robes. I staggered
over to the door, threw it open, and was on the second step of the
stairs when I tripped.
I opened my eyes and found
myself staring straight into Rachel's face. My eyes widened.
“Well... this is
awkward...” she muttered to herself, her arms around my waist. She
began to slowly disentangle herself from me. As she began to walk
away, I shouted, “WAIT!” she turned around abruptly and looked at
me expectantly.
“Er – never mind,” I
said, then cursing myself. She stared at me for a second, squinting
at me suspiciously, then walked briskly away to the Great Hall. I
stood there for a minute or two, recounting what had just happened,
then walked mournfully off to the Great Hall, feeling even worse than
I had when I went to sleep the night before.
“Moony!” I heard James
call from the Gryffindor table. I looked around for Rachel, and found
her staring at me with distaste along with Lily and Molly Weasley in
the middle of the table. I turned away and walked briskly to the back
end of the table by Sirius, and James.
“Hey, mate, you've seen
Wormtail recently?” James asked while gulping down fried eggs.
“I haven't seen him since
last night,” I said gloomily. Unfortunately, Sirius and James
noticed. They looked at each other and nodded simultaneously (Hey
guys, I spelled that right on the first try :3 yay me).
“Moony, we know.” Sirius
said. I looked at them, confused. “How?”
“Honestly!” James
shouted. A few students turned around to stare at us.
“Do you think that we'd let
you go to the library -” Sirius started.
“With a girl -”
James continued.
“By yourself -”
Sirius said.
“Without our supervision?”
James grinned. I sighed.
“No, now that I think of
it, you probably wouldn't.” I muttered, spinning my fork around in
my hand.
“I'm sorry, mate, but I
don't think that whole spazz attack at the library earned you any
points,” Sirius said. “I could give you lessons on girls, maybe
-”
“Stop.” I muttered with
clenched teeth. “Just – stop. I'm a monster, you should know
that! Dating, girlfriends – that stuff is only dangerous for me. I
can't afford to have a crush.”
“Well, I'm sorry, mate, but
I think you've got one.” James said, sharing a knowing glance with
Sirius.
“Well, then I don't show
it. So shut up about 'girl lessons.' It's not happening. Got it?” I
said fiercely. James and Sirius looked at each other and grinned.
“Mate, I think you should
go talk to her. That's the best thing to do.” Sirius said. James
nodded.
I rolled my eyes and stood.
“Not hungry,” I muttered, and grabbed my books to go to
Transfiguration.
