Monster (Marauders Era)
Rachel Wagner doesn't want to have anything to do with the Marauders. She wants to stay the quiet, ignored girl that she was since she started school.
But when she and Remus Lupin begin studying together at the library every night, she wonders if all the Marauders are as bad as Sirius and James.
Meanwhile, a brilliant and powerful wizard named Tom Riddle is gaining followers all the time. He is looking for excellent wizards all around England to carry out his duties. He decides to look at Hogwarts first, disguising himself as a temporary Herbology teacher. Few students even know about Tom Riddle's growing power, and not many of them are willing to warn others about “Professor Delrid.” Luckily, one of them happens to be Remus John Lupin, who is willing to tell Dumbledore about this either brilliant or monstrous wizard. But what happens when Rachel finds out about Remus's “furry little problem,” and Rachel decides to confide in Professor Delrid?

Chapter Thirty-Four - Rachel
Chapter 35
We left after we finished
eating grilled cheese with Harry.
Sirius left about an hour
later.
Everything was fine. Remus
and I fell asleep fine, and everything was fine, until a shadowy
phoenix woke us at midnight.
“Lily and James have been
killed by Lord Voldemort.” It said it over and over.
Lily and James have been
killed by Lord Voldemort.
Lily and James have been
killed by Lord Voldemort.
We
were sure it was some sort of sick joke until Remus and I Apparated
to Godric's Hollow to find the Potter's house in ruins.
I don't know what was worse:
seeing Lily and James' limp – dead – bodies, or hearing and
seeing the way Remus was sobbing.
I couldn't even call it
sobbing. There wasn't a strong enough word to describe the pain Remus
was feeling.
He was kneeling over James,
heaving. Then he crawled over the Lily and cried.
He cried so much, and so
hard, I didn't think he'd ever be able to cry again.
I wasn't nearly as sad as
Remus.
I was furious.
I knew that Peter was the
real Secret-Keeper. I knew that it was suspicious that he was gone
all night.
Peter Pettigrew was working
with Voldemort.
Sirius came soon after we
did. He was just as bad, maybe worse, than Remus. He beat the ground,
the air, he beat everything close to him.
And then he came to Harry.
He saw Harry, crying in his
crib, with a lightning-shaped cut on his forehead, and that was it.
Sirius and I were getting
Peter. Finishing him off.
Remus was against it. He
pinned me to a wall, even, to get my attention.
“DON'T DO IT! YOU'LL GET
HURT, RACHEL! I CAN'T LOSE YOU TOO!”
I shook my head. No, Peter
has to die.
So Sirius and I went out,
even though Remus was screaming at the top of his lungs to keep us
from leaving, to kill Peter Pettigrew.
“DON'T GO, RACHEL! DON'T
GO-!”
I don't know where we
Apparated to; but when I saw Peter, I forgot about my wand.
My wand couldn't do enough
damage to him.
I ran towards him and threw
him down.
“HOW-DARE-YOU-!” I
screamed. I screamed until my throat hurt, punching Peter Pettigrew.
He was supposed to be my
friend.
“RACHEL, STOP! LET ME GET
HIM!” I could barely hear Sirius. I shook my head.
“THEY WERE YOUR FRIENDS -”
“RACHEL! GET OUT OF THE
WAY!”
“YOU BEAST! YOU WRETCHED
BEAST!”
“RACHEL! GET OUT OF THE WAY
-” I turned around right as it happened.
A shot of green light came
bursting towards me, right between my shoulder blades.
And I heard Remus' voice
right before it hit me.
“It's
not very easy to forget about someone...
especially if it's you.”
