Monster (Marauders Era)
Rachel Wagner doesn't want to have anything to do with the Marauders. She wants to stay the quiet, ignored girl that she was since she started school.
But when she and Remus Lupin begin studying together at the library every night, she wonders if all the Marauders are as bad as Sirius and James.
Meanwhile, a brilliant and powerful wizard named Tom Riddle is gaining followers all the time. He is looking for excellent wizards all around England to carry out his duties. He decides to look at Hogwarts first, disguising himself as a temporary Herbology teacher. Few students even know about Tom Riddle's growing power, and not many of them are willing to warn others about “Professor Delrid.” Luckily, one of them happens to be Remus John Lupin, who is willing to tell Dumbledore about this either brilliant or monstrous wizard. But what happens when Rachel finds out about Remus's “furry little problem,” and Rachel decides to confide in Professor Delrid?

Chapter Thirty-One - Rachel
Chapter 32
The rest of the year went
surprisingly fast. O.W.L.'s came and left (Remus, Lily and I got all
O's, of course), and soon we only had one week until the end-of-term
feast.
James was devastated. He
hadn't gotten but one date from Lily, and that was six months ago.
Lily hadn't talked to him since. He spent almost all of his time
sitting on the couch, brooding with his face in his hands. Anyone who
tried to approach him besides Sirius got a punch in the jaw.
It was kind of depressing
until one night, when only the Marauders and I were in the common
room. Sirius was trying to get James to say something other than “my
life is a failure”, Peter was dozing on the couch, and Remus and I
were reading and glancing over at James every once in a while. Remus
and I were about to go to our dorms and try to sleep until Lily came
in from the library. She looked at us, then at James, and sat down by
him on the couch. Sirius immediately backed away and watched him and
Lily.
Lily just rubbed his back
comfortingly. James looked up, saw Lily's face, and dropped his face
in his hands again.
“James,” she whispered.
James looked up and stared at Lily, confused. He touched her cheek
with his thumb, frowning, as if he didn't think she was real. Lily
smiled a little, and it was then, when Lily smiled her dimple-smile,
that James realized that it was really Lily, and that she had called
him James, and so he just stared at her intently, gazing into those
bright green eyes like they were heaven.
“It took you a second to
know it was me,” she said. James smiled.
“And you'd think I'd
know...after seven years of staring at you,” he laughed. Lily
joined in, until they were laughing softly, staring at each other.
Meanwhile, you'd have thought
Sirius was an old grandma. He was smiling so wide, he could have
burst. I was sure I saw him wipe his eyes, once, too.
“Well, you'd think I
would've said yes after seven years,” Lily said. James smiled.
“Lily Evans, will you go
out with me?” he asked softly. Lily took his hand in hers.
“Yes.” she whispered.
James laughed. He laughed like he was relieved, like one of his most
passionate life goals had been accomplished.
And Lily took his face in her
hands and brought it to hers.
And they kissed.
And the whole world was
silent for a moment to see James Potter and Lily Evans, kissing.
