Monster (Marauders Era)
Rachel Wagner doesn't want to have anything to do with the Marauders. She wants to stay the quiet, ignored girl that she was since she started school.
But when she and Remus Lupin begin studying together at the library every night, she wonders if all the Marauders are as bad as Sirius and James.
Meanwhile, a brilliant and powerful wizard named Tom Riddle is gaining followers all the time. He is looking for excellent wizards all around England to carry out his duties. He decides to look at Hogwarts first, disguising himself as a temporary Herbology teacher. Few students even know about Tom Riddle's growing power, and not many of them are willing to warn others about “Professor Delrid.” Luckily, one of them happens to be Remus John Lupin, who is willing to tell Dumbledore about this either brilliant or monstrous wizard. But what happens when Rachel finds out about Remus's “furry little problem,” and Rachel decides to confide in Professor Delrid?

Chapter Thirty - Rachel
Chapter 31
“There's no point in
fighting,” Dumbledore said calmly. Voldemort gnashed his teeth and
squirmed in the net.
“You never know,” he
said. “I could win someday.”
“Not if there is a smudge
of good in the world, you won't.” Dumbledore replied. He turned to
me and glanced at my hands, covered in blood. “You should wash
those.”
“But, Professor, you may
need help -”
“I won't be needing any
help,” Dumbledore said, smiling. “This dark wizard is being taken
care of.” I nodded and walked off to the restrooms.
Rubbing my hands together
with soap in the shiny clean bathroom, I wondered how Lily and Remus
were doing. They had probably gotten the Minister's attention, and he
had probably gotten the guards, and they were probably taking
Voldemort to Azkaban now.
What were Lily and Remus
doing then? Calm down, Rachel, I
thought. They're probably just coming back now. I
shouldn't worry; it'll all be fine.
Walking back to the
disheveled office where Voldemort and Dumbledore were, I saw Lily and
Remus walking back, Remus grinning slightly.
I didn't have to think twice
before I was in Remus' arms, wiping my eyes. Yes, it was ridiculous,
we were only gone for thirty minutes, and only a hallway away, but I
was scared. If Remus wasn't okay, than I wasn't okay.
“Hey, Rachel, it's okay.
You're okay,” Remus said comfortingly. I smiled. We would be fine
after all this. We'd return to Hogwarts, finish seventh year, and –
maybe, just maybe – live a life together. With Lily, James, Sirius,
Peter.
I was so caught up thinking
about what I might do after Hogwarts that I didn't notice that we
were already back in the room, Voldemort was gone, and Dumbledore was
sitting in a purple rocking chair that wasn't there before, looking
smug.
“Well,” Lily said,
laughing a little at Dumbledore. “I guess the guards took
Voldemort.” Dumbledore nodded.
“Yes, yes they did,” he
said. “I was just waiting for you. We can return to Hogwarts now.”
he stood and offered his hand. We all grabbed arms and closed our
eyes, silently counting down together.

We
were done. Voldemort was gone, in Azkaban, and we didn't have
anything to worry about anymore.
