Monster (Marauders Era)

written by Cayla Wilderman

Rachel Wagner doesn't want to have anything to do with the Marauders. She wants to stay the quiet, ignored girl that she was since she started school.
But when she and Remus Lupin begin studying together at the library every night, she wonders if all the Marauders are as bad as Sirius and James.
Meanwhile, a brilliant and powerful wizard named Tom Riddle is gaining followers all the time. He is looking for excellent wizards all around England to carry out his duties. He decides to look at Hogwarts first, disguising himself as a temporary Herbology teacher. Few students even know about Tom Riddle's growing power, and not many of them are willing to warn others about “Professor Delrid.” Luckily, one of them happens to be Remus John Lupin, who is willing to tell Dumbledore about this either brilliant or monstrous wizard. But what happens when Rachel finds out about Remus's “furry little problem,” and Rachel decides to confide in Professor Delrid?

Chapter Twenty-Seven - Remus

Chapter 28

I knocked urgently on the
oaken door to Dumbledore's office. I turned to Lily and sighed.

“You don't know barely
anything about this, do you?” I said. She shook her head, pointing
at Rachel.

“All I know is that she has
some curse that has to do with dreams -” she pointed at me, “-
and you're a werewolf. I've known about that for almost a year.” I
raised my eyebrows.

“How? We didn't tell you
until – now!” I said. Lily shrugged.

“You guys are gone every
night on the Full Moon. I guessed by the scratches on your face that
it was you,” she said. I nodded slowly. I always knew Lily was
smart, but I didn't know she was that smart...

The door opened slowly and a
head with a long white beard peeked out.

“Why, hello!” he said,
smiling. “What would you need?” I glanced at Rachel and Lily, who
nodded.

“We have something
extremely important we need to tell you,” I said. Dumbledore raised
his eyebrows.

“Well, I think that you
would need a comfortable place to sit and a cup of tea, then,”
Dumbledore said, opening the door wider and extending his hand. “Come
in.” We walked in cautiously. I didn't know about Rachel and Lily,
but the last time I was in here, Dumbledore was telling me about how
to get into the Whomping Willow during my transformations.

I sat down in a plush red
chair. Rachel sat on a high-backed wooden chair, and Lily sat down on
a blue rocking chair.

Dumbledore
passed out cups of tea and sat in his chair. “Now, you may tell
me,” he said. I took a deep breath and began to explain. When
I spoke about Rachel's curse, she fell onto the floor and held her
hand in her hands, rocking back and forth.

“My dear,” Dumbledore
said, “I think you should go to see Madam Pomfrey.” Rachel shook
her head furiously, not looking up.

“- and Voldemort – Tom
Riddle – is here, at the school. Right now.” Dumbledore shook his
head.

“No, he is not. He
volunteered for the Herbology post, but I didn't let him. He isn't
here.”

“But Professor, Professor
Delrid? That's him. I know. Would a normal professor curse a student?
Would a normal professor try to kill me in the library? I don't think
so,” I said, causing Dumbledore to frown.

“This can't be...” he
mumbled to himself. I nodded.

“He's cursed Rachel so that
if she or anyone else tells someone about her curse, she gets these
horrible headaches. And he tried to kill me in the library a few
hours ago,” I said. Dumbledore shook his head.

“No, Tom Riddle had dark –
dark hair, and he – he was very handsome,” he said.

“Polyjuice Potion, I
suppose,” I said.

“Where is he now?” he
asked after a moment.

“In the library. Last time
I saw him, I mean. I hexed him to keep him down for long enough to
get you.” I said. Dumbledore cleared his throat.

“Well, I suppose that means
we have to find him and take care of him.”
