Monster (Marauders Era)
Rachel Wagner doesn't want to have anything to do with the Marauders. She wants to stay the quiet, ignored girl that she was since she started school.
But when she and Remus Lupin begin studying together at the library every night, she wonders if all the Marauders are as bad as Sirius and James.
Meanwhile, a brilliant and powerful wizard named Tom Riddle is gaining followers all the time. He is looking for excellent wizards all around England to carry out his duties. He decides to look at Hogwarts first, disguising himself as a temporary Herbology teacher. Few students even know about Tom Riddle's growing power, and not many of them are willing to warn others about “Professor Delrid.” Luckily, one of them happens to be Remus John Lupin, who is willing to tell Dumbledore about this either brilliant or monstrous wizard. But what happens when Rachel finds out about Remus's “furry little problem,” and Rachel decides to confide in Professor Delrid?

Chapter Twenty-Three - Rachel
Chapter 24
I don't remember anything.
I woke up feeling as if my
lungs were about to burst in the middle of the Hogwarts Lake.
Swimming to the top, a few images flashed in my mind. Me, pinning
Remus to the wall. Remus looking terrified, yet not doing anything.
Saying things that I couldn't hear.
I thought I was going to die
here until my head burst through the water's surface. I gasped air,
fresh, clean air, and waded to the grass.
I was inches away from the
grass when a wolf came bounding towards me. Beady – blue eyes. That
wasn't right. Light brown fur. No. This wasn't right.
And then I remembered. It was
the Full Moon.
This was Remus.
I dodged the wolf's claws,
tried to ignore the inhuman growls and hisses. Trying to ignore the
blue eyes cutting into mine.
The Moon was the only light
in the dark midnight. I was ready to die, to be finished by my love,
when a black dog came leaping in the picture.
Padfoot, was
all I could think. Thank you, Padfoot.
The
dog hopped on the wolf, and held him down. The dog then looked at me,
and nudged his head to the castle. I nodded and brought myself to my
feet.
I
sprinted to the castle doors and saw a stag bounding towards the
others, a tiny rat following. James. Peter.
At this point, I really
didn't care what they did to Remus as long as he was okay when he
turned back. I broke through the doors and the corridors, not looking
back.
“Pygmy puffs,” I mumbled
to the fat lady. She opened her door, staring at me, disgusted. I
didn't care. I climbed up the stairs to the girls' dorms and laid my
head on the pillow. The clean, white pillow.
You're
not going to die, Rachel.
Not yet.
I
closed my eyes and immediately fell asleep.
No dreams.
