Monster (Marauders Era)
Rachel Wagner doesn't want to have anything to do with the Marauders. She wants to stay the quiet, ignored girl that she was since she started school.
But when she and Remus Lupin begin studying together at the library every night, she wonders if all the Marauders are as bad as Sirius and James.
Meanwhile, a brilliant and powerful wizard named Tom Riddle is gaining followers all the time. He is looking for excellent wizards all around England to carry out his duties. He decides to look at Hogwarts first, disguising himself as a temporary Herbology teacher. Few students even know about Tom Riddle's growing power, and not many of them are willing to warn others about “Professor Delrid.” Luckily, one of them happens to be Remus John Lupin, who is willing to tell Dumbledore about this either brilliant or monstrous wizard. But what happens when Rachel finds out about Remus's “furry little problem,” and Rachel decides to confide in Professor Delrid?

Chapter Seventeen - Rachel
Chapter 18
I didn't stay in the common
room after that. I couldn't deal with the noise. With my head feeling
as if it were about to burst, I went up the stairs and laid on my bed
until the pain subsided enough for me to fall asleep.
No dreams that night. Well, I
didn't remember my dream. I was ecstatic about it in the morning,
even though my headache was still lingering and seemed to have
traveled to my arms and legs also.
I glanced at my reflection in
the mirror. It was Saturday, so I didn't need to get up early, though
I still felt as if I should. I would probably be the first to the
Great Hall, for at least half an hour. Though I still skipped down
the stairs and to the Great Hall.
My predictions were wrong; of
all people, Remus Lupin was sitting there, chowing on a strip of
bacon. He saw me walking in and waved a little, but I could tell he
was worried. I jogged over and sat beside him.
“Hey,” he said, offering
me a pile of eggs. “Want these? I'm not as hungry as I thought I
was.” I shook my head.
“Why are you here so
early?” he asked me, frowning. I shrugged.
“I dunno. I woke up early,”
I said. “Why are you here
so early?” I said raising my eyebrows at him.
“Couldn't sleep,” Remus
answered. “I spent pretty much the whole night here.” I furrowed
my eyebrows.
“Why couldn't you sleep?' I
asked.
“I don't usually sleep
well.” Silence. “Are you...better now?” he asked, looking
worried. I noticed that he had dark circles under his eyes, and was
extremely pale.
“Yeah, I don't know what
that was about...I mean, last night,” I answered. “Are you –
are you okay?” Remus' face fell.
“No, Rachel, to be honest,
I'm never okay. There's always something.”
“What is it now?” I asked
carefully, trying not to seem nosy.
“Well, I'm worried about
you, and it's – you know, the Full Moon's in a few days,” he
said, throwing his piece of bacon onto his plate.
“Remus, you shouldn't worry
about me,” I said. “I don't want to be the reason you stress.”
Remus shook his head.
“It's
not very easy to forget about someone,” he said, “especially if
it's you.” I
frowned. What was so important about me? Remus shook his head after a
while.
“Don't worry about it,”
he said. “I'll be fine.” He got up and walked out of the Great
Hall, leaving me to wonder what was wrong with Remus – and if he'd
be okay.
