British League Quidditch Match – Cornwal Cobras Vs. London Lions

Chapter 9

-British League Quidditch Match – Cornwal Cobras vs. London Lions*-

This was a very tense game between two of the highest teams in the league, who managed to keep battling on despite the terrible conditions, to finish the game 540 - 420 to Cornwall, after seven long hours of playing.

The weather was clear to begin with, and both teams got off to a flying start. Cornwall Chasers Bobbi Sutton, Sierra Hooper and Jacob Shepherd showcased their newly formulated set-play for the first time, which the audience certainly enjoyed and gave London Keeper Jennie Mills a tough time. Sutton scored the first goal, and celebrated with a full flip on her broom, much to the horror of many spectators, but of course she managed to pull it off. London Chasers Mae Atherton, Ben Walton and Harvey Barnes soon managed to equalize with an incredible goal from Barnes which grazed the tips of Cornwall Keeper Elliot Rogers's fingertips, but still headed straight into the hoop.

The game stayed pretty even from then on in, with neither team ever gaining much of a lead over the other. The Beaters played a cracking game also; both teams are known for their Beater duos - twins occupy the positions in both cases - and their performances didn't drop for a second in the entire seven hour game. London Beaters Robyn and Matt Bates had some great hits, most notably when Robyn sent a Bludger flying across the pitch at top speed right towards Cornwall Seeker Keri Pearce. Luckily for the Cornish side, their own Beaters; Zac and Zane Gilbert, were there in time to intercept the bludger and prevent injury.

Going into the second hour, the weather started to worsen, with a thin layer of fog appearing over the pitch which only got thicker as the game progressed. Unsurprisingly, this made it incredibly difficult for both teams' Seekers to even attempt to look for the Snitch, and was probably the reason the game went on so long. But both teams battled on and their determination never dropped, right up until the moment in the seventh hour when Pearce managed to catch the Snitch, winning the game for Cornwall 540-420

Speaking to London Seeker, Ryan Fox, after the game, he told us just how bad the conditions were to play in.

"It was just fog, fog, fog. I couldn't see a thing. It was terrifying, quite honestly. I was certain that a Bludger would come flying out of the fog at any moment and knock me off my broom before I even saw it. And of course, looking for the Snitch was a nightmare. Keri played an excellent game, and I commend her for managing to spot the Snitch in such bad conditions. I hope it's sunny for our next match, but this is England, so I won't get my hopes up!"

*Cornwall is a county on the southwestern tip of England, on the Peninsula that sticks out from the main body of the country. It's known for its picturesque harbour villages and coastline, and of course the Cornish Pasty! London is the capital city of England and the UK, and is located in the south east of the country.
