Academic Article - Study Buddies
Chapter 4
Academic Article – Study
Buddies
Many people find it difficult to dredge up motivation
for study, or to simply enjoy the classes when bogged down in work and
confusion. Often tutors need to be consulted over complications that could have
been spotted by another pair of eyes. Lessons become dull when you find only
solitude and not much motivation as you work alone.
However, many of these problems can be solved with Study Buddies. Speaking form my own positive experience, Study Buddies make the classes more interesting and give you the courage and determination to complete your goals and fulfil deadlines. It’s amusing to consult a friend over things you don’t understand and often very helpful, and the RP side of it, as well as simply doing assignments at the same time, can make homework a lot more enjoyable.
But here we encounter a problem. How are you going to find a study buddy in the same position as you? You may be in the middle of a course or year, unsure of how to acquire a friend who could join you in the struggle. Finding a suitable study buddy is certainly not easy.
To help bring motivation to students and increase the levels of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years, we have introduced the means of finding a study buddy right for you. All you have to do is fill in a form below with your academic details and some other info and we’ll do our best to link you up with another student in a similar position to be your study buddy. You’ll be paired up according to information on your form and hopefully we’ll find the right person for you who’ll bring motivation and enjoyment to your studies.
Have any questions? We put together a list of the most expected questions that will arise from this offer and answered them below:
Q. What if I don’t like the person I’m paired with?
A. You can always break the partnership if it doesn’t suit you. However, we will try and do our best to find someone similar and agreeable with you.
Q. Does my Study Buddy have to be in the same house as me?
A. Absolutely not. It may end up that way but there are no enforced rules against interhouse pairing.
Q. What if I’m in the middle of an academic year?
A. Tell us which courses you’ve completed and the ones you haven’t in the form (below) and we’ll see if we can pair you with someone in a similar situation. However, you may be required to finish the year before you are paired.
Q. What if I’m in the middle of a course?
A. Finish that course and we’ll see what we can do.
Q. How will I contact my Study Buddy once it’s set up?
A. Owl each other and arrange times to meet and then set up an off-site life chat which you can use when studying together. Google Hangouts is recommended and security safe to use.
Q. What happens when it comes to electives?
A. You must confer with your study buddy on the subject of electives and find out which one each other are doing\plan to do. Make sure you have a few in common, as the ones you don’t you will navigate alone, unless you change your minds.
Q. What about timezones?
A. We will try our best to match you with someone with the same/a similar timezone to you. However, you must be prepared to come on at certain times if your timezone is not matched as well as hoped.
Q. What do I do once I’ve filled out the form?
A. Wait. We will get back to you once we’ve found you a suitable study buddy and introduce you. After this, it will be left up to you.
